Does the power of an amplifier really matter?
I just wish I could get a handle on that nebulous amp attribute that allows a 100W amp to shine over a 200W ampOr, vice-versa of course. Very robust power supply /rectification, matched output devices, carefully chosen components, application of f...
nht vs cerwin vega
gmarcotte: As Bigjow suggests, work with what you have. E-mail the people at Cerwin and ASK them about x-over modification to tame the sizzle. As you suspect, the sound "imbalance" is x-over related and designed to be so. Alternatively, check out ...
Speaker toe-in & stereo imaging
If you can, go with Sean's mono method. If not, try to position yr spkrs ~65degrees apart fm each other as seen at listening position. Play with tow-in fm there. As newbee notes, a lot has to do with upper frequencies drivers' vertical dispersion.
Oooops Just got caught...
Share your happiness with her. She'll be glad. The problem with happiness is that it seems to escape many people much of the time; the good thing about it is that it is freely available to all people all of the time.
ultimate final word what we want out of our system
What we usually want is something more. What we generally need is to be content with what we've got and listen to the musicExcellent Krwman007! I'll second that (and quote you in the future, if I may).
Horn People--Suggestions,Please
'goes in an apt. 12/7 wide--L-shapped room... a motorised screen ... 100inches in the middle 'tween the speakers---AND---the exit is in the left corner...Methinks you could accommodate a medium-sized horn (have to use corner on one side & part...
atc 150 asl pro
IMveryHO, the ATC will outperform the Mark Lev, i.e. ultimately the sound emanating fm the spkrs SHOULD be the sound signature of the pre.OTOH, congratulations on getting a pair of ATC on demo @ home! Care to give a quick course on how you managed...
Triangle Antal Speakers - How to drive?
Antal are very sensitive so should work well with a lower output amp. So, go for either class A ss or a good (SE) tube.I've heard & enjoyed the Antals with a number of European amps -- which are expensive at the moment. If you go for Antal, tr...
ultimate best speakers ever- now under 15K
Kharma & Genesis are differently voiced, although with using the controls on the Genesis one can approach the Kharma/ Martens /Avalon sound.I like the JM Lab, but find them very expensive...Unfortunately, you'll really have to listen carefully...
Can OTL's drive ribbons well?
None of us listens to a tube or a transistor alone; It's the implementation, i.e. the amps, we listen to.One good thing about tubes is that a circuit can be stabilised w/out feedback thus eliminating extra "length" in the signal path. Another is t...
ultimate best speakers ever- now under 15K
For symphonic music you need speakers capable of great dynamic swings and acoustic power (a Wagnerian SOrch is very large-- conside the task of reproducing 8-16 cellos, let alone the rest of the orch!). This usually also means large radiating area...
Does vinyl outsell the hi rez formats?
UNOFFICIAL, i.e. private marketing sources give a slightly different picture for 2003. (Numbers are sales units, values are company NOT market, resellers' T-O)sa-cd: +1,1 M units, $ 20,1M valuevinyl: +1,9 M units, $ 18,7M valueThis of course inclu...
Anybody have opinions on supertweeters?????
Supertweets are great in theory but diificult to implement in practise (to do it WELL, that is -- which you SHOULD do as these tweets are VERY expensive). A few considerations:*time-aligning the tweet to the main spkr: at 20kHz, the wavelength is ...
Analysis Audio Speakers
Despite the 86db (~89db spl) sensitivity, rumour has it that the Analysis are not a severe load, hovering around 6ohm.The bigger Apogees used to be a much more severe load.
Room size-how do I determine speaker size?
I don't want to totally miss out on bass responseYou can't get direct low frequency response in that room -- only reflected (the wave-length is longer). So, I second, third & fourth the monitor. You'll have great sound and "apparent" bass respo...
