bookshelf speakers that sound good on an enclosed bookshelf
Vandersteen VLR's are made to be place in a bookshelf. The non-CT version would be my choice for your friend. I own this model and use it in my office and can attest to it's performance. Add a subwoofer and you'll have a very capable system. PM ...
Washington Post article on MoFi vs. Fremer vs. Esposito
@4krowme , +1 Though I am using digital streaming, I will say that if you are advocating/offering analog pressings, then you should be upfront about where your albums are being made-especially if the cost more than two decimal places. Boy, am I ...
Are Expensive Balanced Interconnects Necessary?
@mglik -+1 If the equipment supports the Balanced standard, then cables should have minimal effect on sound reproduction. Ralph Karsten (atmasphere), would be a good person to PM on this. Bob
Vandersteen WX-4 crossover
I suggest posting a Wanted ad on US audio Mart. As well as checking Hifi Shark. And, why not email or phone Vandersteen? I bet there might be a workaround. Bob
Audioquest William Tell Zero + Bass vs ThunderBird Zero
PM 'ctsooner', I believe he has. Bob
Anyone heard new Belles Dual Mono Integrated vs Basic Aria or Aria Signature?
+2 on John Rutan. He knows his stuff as well as Belles. If anyone knows it is he. But,  My first thought is that owing the Signature Monoblocks and Preamp would be the 'best' sounding. The integrated Dual Mono coming in a close second. Bob
Bookshelf speakers on a bookshelf (Sad)
I will second the Vandersteens. The VLR's are made for bookshelf positioning and if you add a Sub 3 or two, you will own a very capable system- especially if they are driven by the Mac's. Don't let the diminutive size fool you, these little guys ...
Looking for a preamp with XLR connections
A used Ayre KX-R is well below $10K, and is one of the best preamps out there. ( I am referring to the Non-Twenty, but have seen used Twenty's for under $10K, too). Bob
Considering a new amp for my Vandersteen Quatro CT
I forgot about Belles Aria Monoblocks. Well within your budget, unless you go to the Signature, but well worth it. Call or PM John Rutan (Audioconnection). He'll give the best info. and he won't try to sell you. bob
Zen mini mark III with lps or zen mark III
Ahh, you are working with Johnny. He knows his stuff and will be a better guide than most of us. I believe he is selling Aurilac, so you'd be able to demo it, too. Tell him I said, Hi. Bob
What are "Easy Plugs" Speaker Cable Terminations?
Kinda sounds like a Neutrik connector. But, why not email the company? B
Zen mini mark III with lps or zen mark III
I own both the Zen Mini 3 with LPS and the Zen Mk3. I think either will be a considerable improvement over the Bluesound. Aurrender is also a good choice, but you are limited to Qobuz and Tidal. I like the Innuos due to it integrating with Roon...
McCormack DNA 125
@soix - Hey @gdnrbob who are you? Were you part of the CJ/McCormack partnership?   Nope, Just a rather regular customer until I switched to zero feedback amps.   Though I will say that upgrading any of the original amps will result in bette...
McCormack DNA 125
I used to own McCormack. Pat and I have a pretty long history. I want to say that SMcAudio has made a pretty good business providing upgrades to their amps. If the DNA125 works and you like it, then keep it as is. But, if you want to take it as ...
How can I add MQA decoding with my current setup?
Roon will allow you to decode MQA, unfortunately, you have to pay for the service. JRiver seems to not be wanting to do so. If I recall, Bluesound does the first unfolding, but not the full unfolding in the Node. To add to what others have opin...
