Need help with room and speaker setup, big dip from 250-80hz
I should also say adding subwoofers and placing them correctly is a great solution. :)  But since you mentioned you don't have a lot of freedom in your room I did not pursue that. The same advice applies though, except with a sub finding the place...
Need help with room and speaker setup, big dip from 250-80hz
First, get a calibrated microphone. They’re $25 to $100. Dayton imm6 or UMIK-1That your dips are happening at multiples of each other testify to having a standing wave due to wall surfaces around 7 to 8’ apart. Room EQ Wizard has a bass decay char...
Wyred4Sound - Do clocks age?
So my final conclusion is that the W4S Remedy does work, but that it's benefit is related to the source.  On low resolution Internet radio the benefits to depth, and low level linearity are most pronounced. On a station like Toronto Jazz with a 96...
Speakers for Rock - up to 1kusd
I'm always surprised that people but B&W and Monitor Audio on the same list. MA sounds lively and fun with a natural extended highs and the B&W's sound very laid back, but also veiled from the midrange to the top. Point is, you really shou...
Help wanted: Bass!
One thing, where are your speakers relative to the walls and corners? The usual simple fix for more bass is to put the speakers up against the wall, and then in a corner.I just assumed you had tried that.
Help wanted: Bass!
By the way, OmniMic is a better choice, but it's about $250 and will eat into your budget fast.
Help wanted: Bass!
Hi RB! I would say spend no money until you have your hands around the neck of the problem. :) I might TRY some solid state amplifiers, just to see if what you have is an amp/speaker mismatch, as well as different amp taps.  The usual order of imp...
A friend told me JBL DD67000 is actually very bad speaker, is it true?
Depends on the JBL! :) I'm no fan of their current powered mini-monitors at all, but I haven't heard the high efficiency or high output types in a long time.  Worth checking out. Also, a lot of boutique speakers get extra "imaging" but putting a di...
Advice on a Used speaker, Budget $4500
Bass:Live is too short not to have great bass in your listening room. Getting a pro's help is a great idea.  GIK Acoustics will also do remote consulting for you.  If you are loathe to do any tone changes to your mains, having one or two subs whic...
What is DC offset on the AC power line?
NP nails it. It’s a little unusual to have DC on the AC line but it does happen, and as he points out, it happens from a device that draws current only when the voltage is going one direction, but not the other. Dimmers, but also some digital powe...
Upsetting story looking for a solution
The physical labor involved in replacing those was actually something i was worried about. It's one giant aluminum baffle.  It looks like Magico is doing some custom mounting, so they are probably removing the entire mounting plate on the original...
Wyred4Sound - Do clocks age?
Found the DAC remote. So far there’s a noticeable improvement of the overtones in strings and brass. I’m a little worried it’s a level change, but I don’t think so. The string attacks are also just a touch more pronounced. At first I thought the t...
Wyred4Sound - Do clocks age?
I answered my own question. Yes, oscillators and clocks do age. :)  Crystrek oscillators seem very stable per year, but the ageing is not 0. Others maybe not so much. Best,Erik
Wyred4Sound - Do clocks age?
Mine has just arrived. My DAC has been cold for weeks, so it's hard to tell. At the very least it does not suck. I'm listening to my local classical station via the Squeezebox.  The direct connection is via coax, while the W4S is via opticals.  I ...
Corner Placement
Lastly, not exactly a corner speaker, but if you like the idea of a classic 2-way speaker, you may want to check out the Seas A26 kits. Best,Erik
