I strongly recommend you think about a good integrated then. How about Parasound? Lots of inputs, a very nice built-in DAC, and plenty of power.
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
But I should also point out, you really don't want the room correction on when you are listening via headphones. :) Best,E
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
Ahhh, wrong combination of EQ and preamp I'm afraid. The P5 doesn't have a tape/eq/processor loop (P7 does). And the EQ is a 2 channel, without a sub output. If you had an EQ with more outputs, or a pre with a tape loop you could do what you want....
John Atkinson's thoughts on the New Vandersteen System Nine from LA Show
JA is a funny guy, and one I blame for the modern "Stereophile" curve being pursued by so many speaker makers. Even if he's right about a speaker, he's so biased so often I no longer feel his objective reviews are worth reading.
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
I should say I'm not a big fan of using global EQ to solve a problem shared across 2 speakers. If the user has this kind of problem, something like a miniDSP unit that can create it's own sub channel is better, and will give the user multiple EQ p...
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
Well what are you trying to EQ ? If you want to EQ the sub, put the EQ on the sub out. If the main, put the EQ on the main. What is the problem?E
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
Um, just put the EQ after your output but before your amp. :) Easy peasy. Bypass bypasses the gain/volume setting, so an external HT processor would do the volume function. This lets you use the p5 for music, and hte HT to feed another 3.1 or 5.1 ...
Thinking of replacing my Bat spaceheater with class D, real world thoughts please
Um, I think proper room acoustics are important for any setup, 2 channel, 12 channel, tube or digital amps. I strongly encourage everyone to get that sorted early. The idea that a well balanced system can't abide a Class D amp is not something I c...
The eternal quandary size versus sensitivity versus quality!! Help wanted!!
Check out Fritz. He uses some Scanspeak mid-woofers which have exceptional bottom end and end up with really good sensitivity. Best,E
rising audio equipment prices:
I think it's more about magazine hype. I've found exceptional pieces lately which are the rivals or betters of much more expensive gear. Magazines on the other hand keep hyping the very top end, and as the oligarchs and plutocrats make more money ...
$10k DAC in a 3k system?
There are a number of really good <$2k dacs in the market in the last 5 years. Mytek and Schiit among them.I would spend all the rest of your money on room treatment. :) Best,E
Amp/Preamp or AVR for home stereo and entertainment
The A23’s XLR input is convenience only. It’s still an unbalanced input. :( The A23 is a very good, modern sounding amp, I highly recommend it as a solid buy, especially at the price. Quiet, free of grain or glare or strain. Quite solid. Best,E
Best / Cheapest desktop micro-amp?
@lancelock The AHB2 is a good idea, but it's a little large for my needs, physically, and definitely out of budget. Hopefully others will try this out though! Best,E
Preamps: Ayre K-5xeMP vs Pass Labs XP-10 vs Arcam C49
Well I thought it was very good. I was auditioning a very warm DAC, the ARC DAC 8 and the airiness and imaging came through in spades, however this was not a side-by-side comparison.
Preamps: Ayre K-5xeMP vs Pass Labs XP-10 vs Arcam C49
sorry I don't remember the model. I was auditioning DACs at the time.
