Full range or subwoofer with bookshelfs for best bass at low to moderate volume?
The only empirically proven method discovered to date for providing very good bass response that is well dispersed throughout any given room is the use of a Distributed Bass Array (DBA) system.   << cough cough>> Hahaha. Hahahah. ...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions
By the way, I do hear the more open and more dynamic aspects of the CMR line. I'm also saying that so far it is significantly cooler. Imaging is not gelling either, but I have been testing asymmetrically so hopefully as they age together this will...

Hi Dave,What measurements seem to change with break-in? The Farads seem very stable to me. Best,E
Best car audio, Burmester? highly disapointed
Yeah, in the Audi the Bose is the way to go. the B&O system has a ton of features but the top end sounds like their headphones, artificially exaggerated details. I have the 2012 A4 and man, it has way too much road noise. It got much better wh...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions
I'm going to mention @dgarretson the US rep to see if he would like to chime in. So I finally had the health and energy to rebuild my crossovers. Hopefully this trend continues! :) Also I am relying a lot more on barrier strips, so future updates ...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test??
So this brings me full circle. I've seen speakers that are hard to drive at the top end, at the bottom and all across the spectrum. The ESL speakers come by their low impedance and difficulties as do the full-range planar-magnetics (Apogee) via le...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test??
All ESL panels I know of follow this descending impedance curve, which is a problem for a lot of amplifiers since most amplifier’s have rising impedance at the upper end of the frequency spectrum, resulting in an overall significant net loss of ou...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test??
@atmasphere Wrote this false and misleading statement (<-----  a paraphrase of how atma has posted): The ’original Quad’ (as bdp24 put it) is an easy load to drive. Differences in damping between amps is one of the few things that **isn’t** au...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test??
Also want to say, we are lucky to be alive right now. There are some wonderful Women and Men making violins, violas and cello’s these days for relatively paltry sums compared to buying a Strad. Anyone who gets a chance to listen to an accomplished...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test??
So my previous remark was about violins. Any half hispanic, half asian lady, mostly single, concert violinist between 35 and 45 years old who would like to come to my home and prove I can’t tell the difference in which violin she’s playing, please...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test??
The idea that you can’t tell the difference between a violin or viola you know very well and others is nonsense. Not only do they have a specific character, over time the fibers and resins break down depending on how they are played, which musicia...
Speaker phase observation and question?
By the way, if anyone wants to learn about speaker design, and how drivers and crossovers work together I have quite a bit of documentation, including real-time simulation tools you can use to play around and look at some of these concepts.  Pleas...
Speaker phase observation and question?
Man, I’m sorry I have to jump in here: In a good many speakers the phase angle is significantly different for the woofers than it is for the midrange and tweeter. If the woofer has a significant negative phase angle while the midrange and tweeter ...
Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
Hahaha, well in case anyone was hoping the drama would start in this thread, I guess it will be me. :) In the 1980’s the CJ had me body and soul compared to ARC. However in the 21st century, I’d rather have ARC.  This is partly because my tastes h...
How do I remove the woofer from ads 300 speaker?
Also, try putting an awl or something inside a screw hole, and see if you can leverage it to help separate the woofer from the frame.
