“MQA is a philosophy”..John Stuart
I think it's worth having this discussion if we can separate the value (which is arguable) from the process, which is in fact pretty ambitious. From a technical point of view, I think it is clear that MQA is "not just a codec" by any sense of the ...
Have you ever hated the sound of your system one day, and loved it the next?
Yes. In my case it happened because I went away and turned everything off. I came back, and for the next day was wondering what had gone wrong. Of course, this also happens from changing room acoustic conditions. Best,E
How much acoustic room treatment
I would experiment by removing the bass absorption, or relocating them to the opposite side of the room.
buy a better usb cable or a BT for system
One of the popular outboard supplies is Astron. I went with an expensive model that let's me dial in the voltage, but there are cheaper one's. https://amzn.to/2pCDlxqI think technically the 13.8V models are the one's to get if you don't care about...
Would you change your amp selection knowing...?
Thinking of Wonder Cable, yes, this is possible. It warms up the sound, and enhances imaging. The oscillation part though, IMHO this is poor design. First, I don't know of any cable that has more capacitance than an ESL speaker. Second, it is easy...
buy a better usb cable or a BT for system
Did you know the Brooklyn supports an external power supply? I'd invest in that before a new cable. There is something terribly convenient about BT, but with Tidal now available via Google Chrome, with MQA, you may prefer to go that route.
Speakers "Disappearing"
I think you may be confusing the speaker's disappearing with imaging. You want the speakers to disappear. That is, you don't want to be aware that you have 2 separate sound sources.  You DO want to hear the location of the recorded instruments in ...
What does moving from a 150 watt amp to a 400 watt amp get you?
I think you have an excellent amp and I'd leave it at that. You need a lot of power to significantly increase volume. Doubling the volume requires 10x the power. Without doing the math, volume wise you may gaine around 4 dB going from 150 to 400. ...
electrostatic vs dynamic sound
+1 bdp24You can get great help from GIK Acoustics. Also, try throwing around pillows and blankets between and behind the speakers as well as experiments to help you get a handle on it. Best,E
Good Used Speakers ($8K-10K) For A Little Listening Room
Um, sorry @Contuzzi - EQ is OK, but not as good as bass traps AND EQ. At the very least, EQ can cut out the severe peaks (20 dB is not exaggerating), allowing you to raise the overall level of the subwoofer to better match the main speakers. It's ...
Speakers least affected by room acoustics
record - There are some interesting developments in terms of acoustic materials and making them attractive. I'm sure being such famous people you two can avail yourselves of their services.
Preamp: Parasound P5 vs Rotel RC1590
Between reviews and speaking to Parasound directly, I would encourage you to consider the P7 a better preamp than the P5, and I believe the P7 also has RS232 connectivity. The DAC in the P5 isn't meant to be more than a convenience. I haven't hear...
Good Used Speakers ($8K-10K) For A Little Listening Room
Get Fritz speakers, new, for half that. Anything with a ScanSpeak mid-woofer is going to be a pheonomenal 2-way. He makes several. Best,Erik
Any dangers or concerns doing this?
I am really curious. Why not just keep the stereo amp for both, and use the 5 channel amp for center and surround duties?
Speakers least affected by room acoustics
+1 mdbagAcoustic treatment is the first thing. Based on other writers whose names now escape me, the argument is made that the more controlled dispersion a speaker has, the less room treatment is needed to achieve comparable results. This comes at...
