Why Aren't More Speaker Designers Building Augmented Widebanders?
I wonder why you don't make your own? :) There's an ongoing, re-hashing going on at DIYAudio.com about the crossover in the midrange debate, again. Personally I'm of the opinion that there's nothing inherently wrong with a "low" crossover around 2...
Amp speaker pairing recommendations
Simplify. Stick to B&W and Bryston. Get rid of everything else. Get a powered subwoofer. Since you have a nice processor, with built in room correction, I recommend a pair of Hsu subs.Use the full range speakers for the L&R. I find that ru...
Never-ending Speaker Journey ($1,000 budget)
I think it is time in your life for you to consider DIY! :) Best,Erik
Mono Blocks on a Budget, is it possible?
I definitely think that in the linear power supply "world" this has more merit than in the switch mode power supply "world" as is typical of class d amps such as ICE and Hypex. The problem is I have seen very little data on this. Hypex as well as...
Stand Alone Super Tweeter for Revel F208?
Almost forgot, try two things. Try toeing the speakers directly at your head, and also, try listening below the tweeter axis and above it. It's quite possible you will like the sound better with the speakers tilted, or your seating lowered. Best,E
Mono Blocks on a Budget, is it possible?
I see no reason to get "mono-blocks" if you're doing class D as literally the only difference is two power cords vs. one. I suppose that's another opportunity to waste $300-$1000 x 2 on expensive "directional" power cables, but it'd be a total w...
Stand Alone Super Tweeter for Revel F208?
I have an Audible Illusions L2 tube pre now. You are correct. The Revels are more natural. They do everything. I guess I'm looking for high end that is not strident but detailed and midrange that is sort of polite and doesn't hurt when you turn ...
Stand Alone Super Tweeter for Revel F208?
It may be a good time to talk definitions. Air to me is different than sparkle and scintillation. Air feels more natural, like you are hearing the room itself. Sparkle/Scintilation feels like a Disney / Fuji film kind of extra color added. I agree...
Mono Blocks on a Budget, is it possible?
One aspect of monoblocks not mentioned: Channel separation. In truth, not sure how much this matters. Some great sounding stereo amplifiers score rather poorly (-67 dB or more). But this is an advantage. The theoretically near perfect isolation of...
Stand Alone Super Tweeter for Revel F208?
Change the tweeter caps to Mundorf Supreme Silver in Oil. And.... bleah! I do not like that sound, but that will give you what you are looking for. Best,E
Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
I believe the Ice Edge still uses multiple chips for control and driving while the Drivecore integrates it all into one, both seem to have had the goal or reducing component count on the board through. You are right, but I don't think the count m...
Mono Blocks on a Budget, is it possible?
If you feel like getting your feet wet in Class D, and a little DIY at the same time, how about a pair of nCore amplifiers? https://www.hypexshop.com/I was going to recommend the ICEpower 250 ASPs but they seem to have left ebay. Best,E
Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
The big thing with Drivecore is that it integrates almost the entire amp onto one chip. Very interesting! :) This is along the lines of Ice Edge. I think TI Has also done a lot of work besides what they do for Crown/Harman. I mean, don't they hav...
Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
So I found a white paper on Class-I. It seems, simply, like a balanced Class D. http://educypedia.karadimov.info/library/137234.pdfWhat I cannot find anything about is what exactly "DriveCore" is. Maybe this includes the reactive power handling ci...
Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
Besides the usual suspects, there are a couple of companies who have taken on some sort of hybrid approach, in some cases closely resembling earlier work by Bob Carver. NuForce, Yamaha’s EEEngin and NAD which uses a curiously unusual hybrid design...
