Krell 4k Foundation or Parasound jc2 Preamps I don't know about transparency but every Parasound Halo amp I have heard were warm, powerful, quiet, extended and not at all analytical. I've only heard old Krell. Those always struck me as pretty cold sounding amps by comparison.Best,Erik
Room treatments- Piega C10 Ltds +1 GIK AcousticsReally inexpensive products which are very effective and good looking. Good advice, and I think they just put out a 3D room acoustics tool. Best,Erik
Seal a ported sub? Sean, only for the sub. :) That's how I run. It's marvelous. OR you get a digital domain crossover, and then feed a pair of DAC's. :)
Seal a ported sub? Tute : Funny thing. Yes. sealing a ported speaker will raise the -3dB point, in an anechoic room, but that may also help the speaker integrate better. The lower you go, the more likely you are to run into room modes. Also, sealed speakers have les...
Audio as a weapon @geoffkait It may have been a writer who was not writing for Audio during WWII, but who did write for them later. I used to be a subscriber to Audio and I believe it is in this magazine that I read the story.Yes, his idea was describing sonar, but...
Audio as a weapon BTW, I believe that during WWII a writer at Audio magazine suggested using sound waves to detect submarines, which was actually a highly classified secret at the time. Some one please fact check me. :)Best,E
Audio as a weapon It may not be acoustical. It could be microwave. Theoretically (and I’m out of my depth) frequency modulated microwaves could move the fluid in the head, causing acoustic like side effects. Or it could be microwaves being used to excite a local ac...
Building a listening room from scratch Reach out to GIK Acoustics. :) Best,E
Seal a ported sub? Old, clean t-shirts work just fine to seal it. Your ears will tell you which you prefer.... but... really what you want is bass traps and a DSP to integrate the sub properly into your room and with your speakers. Best,E
Looking for a warm sweet speaker Talk to Fritz Top end parts, well integrated. http://www.fritzspeakers.com/
Better to use Parasound Halo A31 or Rotel RB-1590 for front L/R? I don't think the brand difference will make a big deal for HT, but I suspect for music you'll much prefer the A31. :) Best,Erik
Isolation Transformer “Refinements” Nice. One thing to notice is how low the filtering occurs at. Another device, much less expensive, which achieves similar results is a series mode surge suppressor such as from Furman or Brickwall which has a -3 dB point somewhere around 3 kHz if ...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age? after selling the P 5 I had to use my Oppo 105 direct outs to my amps, and began to see how colored the P 5 was. The light went off, so I revisited passives. You are not wrong, but this is unique to the P5! :) The P7 is much more transparent. I...
Best Speakers for Very Large Bright Room Mobiusmu,ESL and dipoles need space to work. If you are planning on cramming them in front of a wall, they are not for you.Instead, I’d recommend horn loaded speakers with a sub. My bet is that this would work outstandingly well for good cost:http...
LG V30 - Impressions? Based on some online reading, the only difference in the impedance modes is the output gain. I'll have to take my headphones to make sure it's loud enough. :) Best,E |
