The big DAC decision
I've been extremely happy with a Mytek Brooklyn DAC with an external power supply. It does native DSD and it's quite small. I have found the DAC's in Oppo products to be really variable in quality from product to product.
Accuphase E470 v. Luxman L509x
I have not heard them, but you give up the nice Loudness dial in the Yamaha.
Tekton Double Impacts
What I find most amusing is just how much "energy" the Tekton brand has created on Audiogon. I’m not a fan of the aesthetics, or the patent wording per se, but the hexagonal arrangement of tweeters is definitely a new, fun and interesting idea tha...
Epique diy speakers?
Two things.First, look for articles that mention Keele.Second, come over to diyaudio, where you'll find plenty of people with opinions. :) Best,Erik
Pass Labs vs Mark Levinson vs Parasound - best 2 channel amp used under $2,500?
I am afraid that my experience echoes @spenceroo I’ve heard plenty of Pass, and my nCore and ICEPower amps in my home sound as good or better, for fractions of cost, weight, and power consumption. I also like Parasound more than Pass though, so ju...
Pass Labs vs Mark Levinson vs Parasound - best 2 channel amp used under $2,500?
Heh, I’m listening to an NAD D3020. Much more modest, but also a hybrid class D.I think the M22, if based on the same principles, is really worth a listen.Best,E
Get a built in sub or get a bigger amp
Separate subs with killer eq/DSP and bass traps are the answer say I.
What is an acceptable level of transformer hum on a Krell S300i?
So this is definitely mechanical hum. It is unlikely to be a ground loop, but it could be DC on the line, but testing this in a different home eliminates that. Have you pressed your hand on the case? Is it something you can damp, or is it all soun...
Enhancing low frequencies for my system
Bass TrapsDSP based EQPlacementThese are a few of my favorite things.
Focal Aria 926/936
If memory serves, the one negative of the 936 is the impedance through the bass. It needs a beefier amp than average. About listening angle... I agree that some speakers seem to sound closer to the midrange/mid-woofer level than the tweeter, even ...
Linear Power Supply for a DAC
I use an Astron for my DAC which is fed by USB / PC, but a Teradac power supply for my Logitech Squeezebox Touch. I like them both. The nice thing about the Astron model I got are the visible guages and user settable voltage. I set it to 13 V out ...
Should I recap my speakers? If so who can do it?
+1 for Mills. Few more reasons they are worth it:Small for power rating, makes them easier to fit and leave air clearanceDead accurate resistanceExtremely thermally stable
Auditioned Magico A3 - VERY DARK...
I can’t find any impedance curves for the A3’s, by the way. As the salesman had to crank the volume up on the tube amp to get decent output, that tells me the A3’s were underpowered. It could be:Speakers are tuned to play loudly, so lack emphasi...
It is not about cable quality anymore, it is about the sheer number of them!
That's definitely one direction I am thinking of!
Need cable to soften brightness just a little?
Room acoustics. :) try this, throw some pillows between and behind your speakers on the floor. :) Also, GIK acoustics.
