How I would measure cables If you make claims about speaker cables, prove it. That's what I'm asking. I'm also saying that the reasons we can't is that we are hearing things to subtle to be measured.I call BS.
How I would measure cables BTW, my point to this thread is that a lot of marketing and BS science is thrown out to justify very expensive cables. The claim is made that we can't measure cables based on basic, old school, steady state measurements. OK, fine, but we are decad...
How I would measure cables Here’s another example of someone arguing for objective testing of things such as cables, but refusing to do the work themselves - even though they insist it would be "super simple" to do it. After all, it’s just "basic research." Why do they res...
Small drivers vs big drivers Adding to @twoleftears : The 2.5 way speaker is a little miracle of efficiency, space and capability. Two 8" drivers are still only the radiating surface of a 10" or so, but the increased efficiency, and reasonably extended bass output make them s...
Need Advice & Need It Fast Have you tried the NAD mini-integrateds??
Small drivers vs big drivers The lower bass response of a speaker is so incredibly fungible. Room gain and placement matter a great deal, so best not to read too much into the spec itself.I will say that good room acoustics can make a speaker sound bigger, deeper, and tighter...
One Amp To ‘Rule’ Them All.... I don't know everyone can agree on a best, but I find Parasound are an excellent gauge of great price/performance. I find they tend to be slightly warm, robust, and neutral. A number of Class D designs sound the same to my ears, so it seems they a...
What is your experience with the law of diminishing returns ? I think that the issue is in large part, how much and how do you want to teach your ear/brain mechanism to listen for? Are you teaching your brain to be happy, or are you teaching it to discriminate among cables? At a certain point, sure, you are ...
Krell KSA 50 (fan?) noise? Also, fans are super cheap, and thanks to the PC industry, a lot of them are a lot quieter. While you may be able to service it, you may also wish to just buy new. Make sure you match voltage and cubic feet per minute (CFM), then try to find the q...
Krell KSA 50 (fan?) noise? If you can, upgrade the temperature rating. The higher the rating, the longer the operating life at a given temp. Nichicon is the go-to brand for the big power supply caps. Replace distributed, smaller isolating power caps with Panasonic FM where ...

Great multichannel amps do not cut it in stereo You could also do an integrated + HT processor. At least the Luxman units let you separate the amp, so you can feed it directly from another source, such as a HT processor, or an Anthem HT receiver. I am seriously thinking of going this route.
Which speakers for a Yamaha A-S2000 I think the 8s are more rock and roll. :) But you should absolutely listen for yourself.
When/why to upgrade? Room acoustics are where I’d spend my money if you haven’t already. I don’t think you’ll find better speakers per-se but there have been very trendy sounding fads in what high end speakers should sound like.However... I would look around to see wh...
Am I deaf? I just looked at the Qutest. On the low end, check out the Topping DX3. I'm listing to it now on my PC. Otherwise, Mytek Brooklyn is probably going to be a lot more DAC for the money. |
