power grid issues? @theaudiotweak is confusing ground loop issues with DC. Ground loop issues cause hum out the speakers, and digital jitter which may or may not be audible. Mechanical humming from transformers is not caused by this. Best,E

Yamaha A-S2000 XLR Input Issues? I run the Luxman 507ux with a high voltage out DAC, the Mytek Brooklyn, and I have no issues other than the volume control is more limited in range, as you’d expect. I have not heard the Yamaha side by side to compare. However, do you actually hav...
An Audiophile is Anyone Who Loves Audio Regardless of Monetary Status. Agree? As many of you probably know, my principles are:Price is a poor predictor of performance. To your own ears be trueAs a result, I have zero interest in seeing "high end" equated with megabucks. Not to mention, lots of audiophiles are apartment dwel...
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard? Spectral is a line I wanted to be impressed with, like Pass, and I just haven't. They do not bring me joy.
power grid issues? I found this article, and it seems to be pretty comprehensive: https://www.pooraudiophile.com/2015/03/how-to-fix-dc-offset-and-transformer.html
power grid issues? It sounds like the age-old issue of having DC on the line. This will cause mechanical vibration in the transformer. I would not just turn off appliances, I'd turn off all the breakers to see if it's something in your home. Usual suspects are digi...
Amp comparison I’d skip both. I used to work for a company that kept Hafler in business buying amp modules. In direct comparisons to other amps, driving high efficiency theater (auditorium) speakers, I always found them weak sounding. Not to mention it's time fo...
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard? Forgot, it doesn't get enough mention, but I also really like Arcam
New dedicated lines have high noise floor. Before you call your electriticians, there is something for you to try. Turn off every other breaker in the home. If the noise persists, it's on the line, or from the outside. If it all goes away, it's coming from elsewhere in the home. If your br...
New dedicated lines have high noise floor. The crackling is a real issue. Please have it checked, you may have arcing somewhere. The other issue, is one I have warned about before. Having too good of a connection to the panel means you may get closer to any noise from outside. A better so...
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard? D’Agostino, Luxman, Ayre are my top favorites right now. I find their sound in sharp contrast with Pass, which is really not for me.
New home power protection? To clarify, running all the outside wiring (TV, cable, satellite, etc) to the same panel for a bulkhead-like grounding and surge protection solution is what gets expensive, and inconvenient, but if you are building new, in a lightning prone area y...
New home power protection? 1. Is whole house surge protection at the panel effective and worthwhile?Yes. Some of it can be very cheap. Panel makers have a variety of units that fit in like breakers. Utility companies also offer protection at the meter. They usually recomm...
Paragraph line spacing test Thanks, @almarg, I did see it, but it is a kludge, and Audiogon needs either fix it, or declare that this is a Chrome-only site. What will we do in the future when new users show up with Firefox? Post those instructions every time? Hope they see ... |
