Equipment Shootout with Wharfedale Evo 4.1, 4.2, Monitor Audio, and HSU plus amps
I know this isn't the way you were thinking, but the Wharferdale line is one DIY'ers love to get better caps for. Seems to be worth it. MA uses some decent film caps already.
Music Server or Laptop?
oops! Sorry, there is a version of Daphile with a RTOS, but that's not the recommended one.
Music Server or Laptop?
Just looked at Daphile. It is an OS image for x86 type servers. It is based on the Logitech Media Server / Squeezelite packages running on an real time OS for lowest possible jitter playback. It is a similar idea to piCore.Personally with the Rasp...
Low profile CC speaker that is good sounding
Um, if you are using room correction, just about any center channel, or even a lot of bookshelves which fits will work pretty well here. I mean, not ideal, as larger = more output, and while yes, the cabinets muck with the sound the room EQ will d...
Coupling Capacitor upgrade? Which one first?
I really like Cornel Dubilier over Wima's. Cheap, small. Worth trying.
channel separation
Interesting. It sounds like channel separation may not be causally related to sound quality, I wouldn’t say this, exactly, but that 50 dB is a very high amount of channel separation. As a scientist - but not an engineer - I remain puzzled about h...
Recommendation for an audiophile speaker cord that is not "bright"?
Wireworld is usually the opposite of bright, but with good imaging as a trade off. May be ideal for you.
channel separation
BTW, I did the math. Assuming one channel has 1V, -50 dB is about 0.003 volts.
channel separation
It's just really a matter of how well isolated the audio as well as the power supplies are. At 20 kHz it probably doesn't matter. 50 dB is pretty good! It's in my mind the midrange where separation is more important.
Audiophile speakers that get loud
Stuff the ports. :) The excursion happens because below the port, the woofers have no resistance at all. Stuff them. This will raise the natural -3dB point up a few Hz, but greatly increase the dynamic range they can play out before they hit max. ...
dB effeciency vs speaker configuration
what determines speaker efficiency? Is it the materials used, or is it something else? At a fixed frequency, how it is loaded (i.e. horn or not), magnet size, strength and structure, moving mass and radiating surface, as well as suspension. You'll...
Harsh High Frequencies on Speakers
Often you can help this with room acoustics. This particular effect is improved by damping the floor around and behind the speakers. Use blankets to test.
Which speakers next to a wall mounted TV, listener is 6ft away, $500-1k budget
Monitor Audio work well with movies and music. Used silver. Also check out the Parts Connexion, they often have sales.Another brand you can find on a decent discount is Focal if you know where to look. I think Music Direct often carries them as we...
Eh hem!...Subwoofers... What do ya know?
Everytime i hear a rig with a sub for 2 channel, i can HEAR the subwoofer, its not a balanced / natural tone to my ears. And this is the problem for me, who bats for team sub. Most subwoofers are not integrated well. When they are, they are magic...
Distinguished Frequencies
So, one thing that I've noticed, and not sure was taken into account: Different DAC's perform differently at lower resolutions. With the Mytek I'm listening to right now i cannot tell Redbook vs. 96/24. With an ARC DAC 8 I could. It would be reall...
