Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion. I've never owned JL Audio subs. I like their performance and the measurements I've seen of their room tuning quite a bit. However, wow. Super expensive. Hard to believe the average audiophile can't get a lot more value using a Hsu or SVS sub with ...
Watts and power Oops, sorry meant to say: simpler 3rd order low pass Best,E
Watts and power Hey there @audiozenology That dip in impedance is a factor of woofer electro-electromechanical properties and sometimes a 2.5/3.5 way folding in another driver. Crossover may shunt current from woofer to tame a peak. The speakers in question were...
Considering the option of "DSP speakers" Hey @andy2 I won’t say I’ve ever heard exactly what you described, but this is a large reason why I only use DSP on the sub. I think Krell HT preamps have this option, and I think it’s a good idea. Of course, room treatment is always a good thing,...
How do wireless subwoofers do this? Ideally, the sub handles the integration seamlessly. Yes, you can do this without adding a filter on the satellites. I do it this way. I suggest if your main speakers are ported, seal them before calibrating. Best,E
Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion. There is actually an even worse way to do this:Use DSP to create your crossovers, then global EQ to bang the living heck out of the results. UGH. I see this not just with subs but with multi-way DIY systems. Don't do that.
Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion. Hey dpac996 , just FYI.
Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion. I should also state that my process is pretty complicated. :) I bet there are Room EQ Wizard forums that make this whole thing a lot simpler. I haven't investigated because I like being in the weeds, but you absolutely should, come back and tell u...
Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion. Adding A Subwoofer. This is just too long. It’s as if the author is trying to impress us, and impress upon us that we cannot do this. Well, we can. It’s just a giant pain in the ass. :) There are six paragraphs which are unnecessarily complex, but...
Eh hem!...Subwoofers... What do ya know? I am reading the JL Audio article on sub integration. I'll be responding to it shortly. Honestly it's a bit of a mess, but I agree with their main points. As much as I like how well their room correction works, I find this article attempting to m...
Seating height and bass If I remember correctly, most speakers want the tweeter to be positioned at ear height. That would be step number one. That's a good starting point. This isn't always true. Some B&W's seem to measure much better at midrange axis, but only yo...
Watts and power After a lot of listening and reading speaker specs here is what I feel to be true:Amps, including solid state, are a lot more susceptible to low impedance in the bass region than we should expect by the common mathematical models. If you have a sp...
Seating height and bass OP:Tweeters get darker off-axis. That is, they have the most HF output if you are listening to them directly, and as you go off axis the high frequencies roll off. See figure 6 (yeah, this is lateral, but horizontal should be similar):https://www....
Luxman M-600A Wet caps made in the 2000's are a lot more reliable. You probably have another 20 years with them. Best,Erik
PCM and DSD and MQA server Well, sorry to tell you but all streamers are computers of some sort. They all just hide it. I have to say that the only reason I'd spend any money on them really is the user interface/usability. Spend money on whatever you find easier to use, and... |
