If you HAD to purchase a used (over 4 years old) DAC, what would it be?
I think anything in the last 10 years is a lot better than anything before.  To answer your question, I really wish Bricasti lost their value faster.
The $27,900 disappointment? Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 8 issues.
For anyone considering a Wilson Audio Tune Tot though I encourage you to look at Fritz as a better sounding and more affordable alternative.
Altec Model 19 Soundsystem with Subwoofer pairing
Measure and see what your bass response in room looks like, then determine where to cross.  It may be you have particular room modes you need squelched, say 72 Hz, so you'll want to cross higher than that and position the subs where they won't be ...
Audiophile Equipment Repair?
In another thread an A'goners might have had a bad outlet in a conditioner.  Im pretty sure we spent more time talking about how to diagnose and fix it than it should have taken to drive to the hardware store, buy and install a replacement.   🤣
Audiophile Equipment Repair?
I really believe that an audiophile should be able to repair their own electronics. Honestly I hate repairing things in my electronics or home, but the lack of qualified techs (including plumbers, electricians, etc.), time to get the work done ...
The $27,900 disappointment? Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 8 issues.
I just want to point out that Wilson was making very different speakers in a different market then than now. Not that I’m a fanboy or could even really justify their prices, but when we look back at vintage speakers we are looking back at differe...
How many subs?
Check the AM Acoustics Room Mode simulator btw, it can help you with placement.
How many subs?
I have a friend who is bemused about my attempts. He reckons he’ll come round and fix it without using delays, and with just 1 sub. I know people are saying use 4 - but if it sounds artificial and I don’t like it, and I am determined to not use ...
Will an Amp change improve my system ?
You have some interesting choices listed.  From where you are, warm sounding but plenty of bass I'd think you'd want something maybe a little livelier while keeping the robust nature. Pass is to me a very personal choice.  Fanboys claim it's the...
Ethernet
In your home, most affordable switches and ports support 1GigE, as do cable modems and routers.  That's not to say the Internet provider will offer you that much bandwidth.  That's Cat 5e.  It's also probably 2x or more what you get from outside. ...
Ethernet
I hope you mean "Ethernet switch" instead of "splitter." Keep in mind that Cat 5 cable has about 100x more bandwidth than audio or even video requires.  Going to a higher cat than your source and switch supports doesn't help anything.  Using shie...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system
Personally a fan of trasnformer coupled inputs, especially their rejection of ground loops.  If you bypass either, do the outputs. @stellavox1  - Any idea who made them?
Who positions their speakers straight ahead (zero tow in) and why.
@lingraves just a little toe.  Youll hear 3 locations at first.  Left, center, right, until you get it right, then it will all come together as a continuous image
Who positions their speakers straight ahead (zero tow in) and why.
Kind of related to this is that we sometimes focus too much on getting rid of all reflections around the speaker when in fact there is an ideal balance between a given speaker's output pattern and how good the side and rear reflections sound.  Sm...
Who positions their speakers straight ahead (zero tow in) and why.
The formal answer is that toe in affects tweeter rolloff, the width of the sweet spot, the treble to midrange balance and early reflections.  There's also the issue of some excellent tweeters may have resonances which completely vanish a little of...
