Impedance - The most ignored and useful measurement tool
Is there extra functionaity in the Dayton piece that makes it worth it To be honest I have only used the DATS V2 and really love how well and easy it is to use, I’ve not tried the REW, but if I recall it requires you to use 2 audio channels at ...

Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...?
Depends how far you are measuring at and whether your iPhone’s DB scale is reliable, but probably. Sensitivity is rated at 1 meter, so you should make sure to measure around that distance. You’d be amazed how little power most of us actually use ...
Nearfield Low-Level Listening : New Speakers or EQ? Thoughts?
EQ.  Mainly for flexibility.  I miss the Denon style variable loudness controls.
Using both balanced and single ended outputs at the same time?
If you’re using components with truly balanced circuitry, you often get 6 dB greater output when using the balanced XLR connectors. Another way of looking at that gain is that for a given output level, you’ll get 6 dB greater S/N when using balan...
Using both balanced and single ended outputs at the same time?
Honestly we don’t need balanced cables in the home very often, but in areas where you have a lot of Ethernet and HDMI cables running around they add some additional noise rejection. Unless you have a long run, I’d be surprised if anyone ever hear...
Wattgate IEC does not fit tight.
@zlone The IEC connection scheme is pretty simple, but that doesn't give Wattgate an excuse  to make it worse.   I can see how the IEC footprint really helps in situations where high density is needed, like a power distribution center in a rack. ...
Wattgate IEC does not fit tight.
Really, I try to avoid ever saying "don't get this gear, it's bad" on this forum, or anywhere and prefer listeners to make their own choices.  Wattgate is a rare exception and I think consumers are safer and better off with a $5 part from the hard...
Using both balanced and single ended outputs at the same time?
@fastfreight This is very equipment specific. Most high quality devices which offer balanced outputs just mirror the hot signal with similar components, but perhaps only at the very output stage. It’s a bit of fear mongering to say that balanced o...
Thinking about going electrostatic
I also concur that your living space is a big factor.  Having space behind and to the sides is important.  Check their manual online or ask others for the ideal placement.
What happened to Mytek?
Thanks guys, some of this I was aware of, like having to find a new factory. I didn't realize they had their business partner decide to compete with them. The last I really followed them they were developing the Empire, which had essentially 2 mi...
Wattgate IEC does not fit tight.
@jea48 I go into the details of the Wattgate in my blog. Essentially series of questionable choices regarding the length of the body, shortness of the pins and the contact method resembling the prongs of a backstab outlet connection, in addition ...
Wattgate IEC does not fit tight.
Rarely has an audio accessory pissed me off as much as the Wattgate connectors.
Would like to get more bass out of my B&W 801 series 2 speakers
Just saw your picture.  Your best option is to treat your ceiling and bring your speakers out from against the wall if at all possible, otherwise treat wall directly behind with as thick absorbers you can afford. The ceiling is going to substitut...
What happened to Mytek?
They just exhibited at Capitol AudioFest so it would seem they’re still around.  Every year or two you read about communication problems with them so maybe it’s that time of year again. @marco1   Well that's good to know!  And yes, exactly.  ...
