AC Power
Hi OP: You are getting good advice. My observations, living in apartments and now a detached home is that most significant voltage fluctuations come from seasonal variations as well as major appliances (HVAC, dryer, etc.). It is _very_ rare to se...
Definitive Technology Mythos STS crapped out... worth repairing?
As a die-hard speaker builder i think the only reason to keep these speakers now is as a learning experiment. On E-bay they are running $1k.  $600 for repairs seems like too much, and all the mods suggested above are great, if you are already a s...
Tube Pre/ Class D Amp - Who has done it?
@erik_squires What amp or amps are you getting?   @lwin - I'm getting 3 way plate amps made by Hypex.  I'll be removing the passive crossovers and re-working them with the built in DSP capabilities.  It's not a straight conversion.  In additio...
Tube Pre/ Class D Amp - Who has done it?
Really happy to see all the on-topic replies here. Especially happy that this discussion has stayed focused on the union of tube and Class D as opposed to a free-for-all discussion about Class D vs whatever you like better. Those discussions are ...
Pre-amp for Parasound A21+ & B&W 803 D3
The Parasound P7 was the best preamp short of the JC series.  Highly recommended.
Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
Yep,  a Y splitter is simple. The issue with passive bi-amping (without a crossover) is that both amp channels still provide the same voltage swing, but with twice the power supply you used to have. With a miniDSP you can do a couple of more adv...

Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
My suggestion was hybrid, keep the mid to tweeter cross and use a minDSP  for mid to woofer
World’s Best Cable 7 awg
WBC makes cables out of several different manufacturers. I’m a big fan of them with Mogami for interconnects and speaker.
Luxman M-900U, UV Meter
That amp deserves many years of love, but it's not necessarily a bad meter, it could be the driving circuitry.  I'm sure your dealer has pointed you in the right direction though.
Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
Also, didn't these speakers come with an "alignment filter" of some sort?  You can do away with it if you go fully active.  Replace the bass EQ in the filter box and use the DSP instead.
Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
Well if you were considering doing more work, those are good speakers to take semi-active.  Using a 2-way active crossover, and by passing the woofer low pass and mid high pass can increase your dynamic range and give you some powerful EQ capabili...
Luxman M-900U, UV Meter
It’s probably a simple fix, but if you don’t know how to open the case, I’m really worried you don’t know what you’ll be looking at once you are inside.  It is unlikely the issue will be visible.  You won't see a burned out part to replace or brok...
Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
The levels are probably not going to be the same.  Use a Y splitter.
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days?
My subjective observation is yes, but... Around 2000 DAC's universally improved how well they played Redbook.  The days of big jumps in sound quality between a 44.1/16 bit recording and 96/24 have all but vanished with only very small differences...
