any advice appreciated
With that size room, go for big electrostatics, Logan, Soundlab or even older acoutstats.
XLRs = lower volume?
There is an impedance difference with XLR vs RCA. You may have a slight compatability issue. Can you try a dvd player to the DAC via the optical to see if that's the issue? Can you try different inputs in your pre?
Fisher tube receiver rebuild, Who can provide help
Mapleshade sells these for $1500 totally rebuilt. They may be willing to do a partial or full rebuild for you?
Old top-of-the-line A/V Receiver vs. new mid-level
Keep the 5803 and buy a nice 2 channel amp for the right and left or a killer 5 channel. If you go with 2 channel amp for now, it will free up some power in the 5803 for the other channels. Just get a 2 channel that you can mate with another 3,4 o...
Power for speakers, too little will damage a speak
If you don't have hum/hiss problems, leave the caps alone. New binding posts and rca jacks and power cord will help.
Old top-of-the-line A/V Receiver vs. new mid-level
Start with a nice 5 channel power amp. Keep the Rotel for now as a pre only. This will save you from upgrading again when you decide the denon was a bad move.
Power for speakers, too little will damage a speak
M1's are great but really need 200+ watts to sing.I doubt that the distortion from the amp can hurt the speakers. However, I'd worry about overdriving the amp. Pushing it at max will shorten the life of some very hard to get tubes!
Anyone try decoupling speakers from the room?
Won't you lose all bass by decoupling either the speakers or listener?I saw an A'goner a few years ago decoupled his amps by hanging them with wires to avoid and issues. It worked great until one monoblock dropped 2 feet to the floor...
Magnavox console radio
There are better projects to buy and fix up.Find an old fisher, scott or pilot amp or receiver to fix up. It may cost a few more bucks than the magnavox but you will end up with first class sound quality when done.No matter what you do with the ma...
Magnavox console radio
Most of these aren't worth more than $50. Servicing them is a lot more. I've restored a few and found that they do sound nice and smooth but are definitely not high fidelity. If you need tubes, buy used or very inexpensive ones. If it has rca inpu...
8 ohm Dual woofer speakers... How?
What about the tweeter and midrange impedances?Got a lot more math to do.Crossovers can change impedance also, as well as looking at the impedance curves and where all the drivers cross...
Changing to Quieter Fans in Behringer Amps?
If I disconnected the fans on my QSC amps, the temp will rise and the amp will shut itself down regularly to cool down. To get around the fan, either add an external fan or a thermal control? You could buy a quieter/better fan but is it worth it?
Looking for Pre/Pro with great 2 ch sound
Anthem is Awesome. I also love the Sunfire IV or Sherbourn 7010/A (same thing)
How do you sync the output of Zone 1 and Zone 2.
I'm using a Niles 8 pair impedance matching selector for my house. 5 zones off 1 amp and main zone off the Denon 395 multi-room receiver. I honestly never notice any delays from room to room. This is thousands of feet of runs.
How do you sync the output of Zone 1 and Zone 2.
Should work much better using all internal. The other option is using the Marantz (better amps) for both zones with an a/b speaker selector?
