What should I look for in a Processor??
The most important item for me was DPL II. Way better than just pro logic for normal tv. The next issue I looked at was the DAC. I wanted nice clean sound (24/96 minimum). Third issue was the remote-easy to use/program. Last item was enough inputs...
Buy a sub or ditch my new speakers altogether?
$500 can get you a pretty hefty sub. B&W orHSU or similar will do the job. Bass will tighten up plus it will relieve a lot of stress on your amp.How are the speakers with music-they should be awesome. Most systems have trouble with TV sounding...
Speakers for a Scott amp.
Klipsch Cornwalls would be great or Coincident Partial Eclipse for newer speakers. Both are quite tube friendly.
ISO new reciever, advice needed.
Saki70 is right! Look into Music Hall Maven or Mambo. They also have built in DACs so you will get an instant upgrade fromt the HK CD player by using the digital outs? I think they have a sub out also which will help your set-up too.

Music for toddlers and parents?
You should have had her on the Bach for Babies series. Too late now. Wiggles are better than most out there. Try a fantasia dvd for background music. The visuals may keep her interested. The best thing you can do now is get her into Ballet and Tap ...
12ax7 and 12at7 for Jolida 202a
From what I've seen, Jolida skimps on tubes. Usually, cheap Chinese ones. Start with some mid priced ones and you will be amazed! Check sites like tubeworld just to learn about the different tubes and prices (they are pricey). Then, buy some and t...
Amp Designs That Are Able To Drive 4/2 Ohms Load
Doesn't distortion go up as impedance decreases? Why design an amp for a lesser performing speaker? How many speakers actually are a stable 2 ohms, outside of car audio which has much higher distortion tolerances. My one tube amp is stable at 2 ohm...
Preamp/DAC combo suggestions
Get a music hall mambo. It has a great internal DAC. Play with it for a while, then send it to chris johnson at Partsconnextion to get modded. Class A amp, 24/196 DAC, great op-amps and more for way less than $2k.
For people with experience with Class-A amps
John,That's the opposite of Class A. Class A amps are so good because they are always running at full power. The power has to go somewhere when not being used for sound, hence the heat. As you play louder, the heat dissipation reduces. The Krell ma...
For people with experience with Class-A amps
Could be many reasons. Have you opened up the amp? Maybe things are not symetrical inside? Are your speakers drawing the same power? Check the impedance on them?Is this difference when listening quietly or loud? Most class A amps will switch to B w...
Best amp under 1k for Soliloquy 5.0s
Soliloquy made a model for low power tube amps. It was more sensitive. The 5.0 is nice but should have at least a 30 watt amp. Stick with EL34, 6550 or KT88 based amps. 300B, 2A3 and EL84/6BQ5s just won't have enough juice.
Vintage Mcintosh Speakers - your thoughts?
Chris,I bought my Heresys from a friend 20 years ago and sold them to another friend. Then, I moved into Cornwalls for a long time. Sorry, but it definitely wasn't you. However, it's amazing that this friend that sold me the Heresy's has been a fr...
budget tube preamp dilema
I've owned most of these. Vintage tube pre-amps can be great but also can be a royal pain due to age and wear.I finally settled on a Cambridge 640 phono pre and can't believe how much happier I am than with vintage dynaco, pilot, CJ 5,8, 10 or 12 ...
