4 ohms That amp will drive anything! Keep in mind that power isn't everything.
Old verss new Dacs Depends on how old. I had an old Theta 18 bit that was great in it's day but can't stand up at all to a new mid-level cd player with 24 bit (music hall or cabridge). The new ones are definitely clearer. Also got rid of my CAL Alpha once I got my M...
Should I get advents? Make sure the foam on the woofers is ok. Not worth repairing?
amp recommendation for subwoofer For that, I'd consider a commercial amp. Get a 400 watt QSC or Crown for only a couple hundred.
where should i go from here? Your weak link is the source. Your music is compressed greatly and will never "sing". Get a cd player first. I have dir tv and 2 very nice systems, tube & theater. Dir tv, dish net, and xm all sound flat even with high priced gear.
Tube compatability question Yes.The tubes very likely could be your weak link. Also, what gain tubes are in there? 12ax7? Replacing those may make a drastic difference.
where should i go from here? Denon's are nice. It's not a high end 2 channel pre though. Also, it's very easy to overdrive the amp section if you are running 5 speakers at a decent volume. Using external amps should help. Even by just driving your R&L speakers with an ext...
A packing solution for Audiogonitis carriers Noodles are cool!I actually use bubble wrap on the inner box and peanuts on the outer box. This works great and I always double box!
Speaker db rating? For simplicity:Assuming 92db speakers1 watt = 92db2 watts = 95db4 watts = 98db and so on...Takes double the wattage to increase 3dbTakes 10 db to have perceived doubling of volume
in-wall speaker cable help 50 feet is quite far for interconnects. I'd bet on it that you get noise and signal loss. Don't do it!
Question on speaker sensitivity / power. 1 watt = 86db2 watts = 89db4 watts = 92db8 watts = 95db16 watts = 98db and so on.You have to double wattage to gain 3db.You have to go up about 10db to hear a doubling of volume.THX is 110db, Ultra THX is 112db.Yes, I'd suggest at least 100 watts ...
best inexpensive tube integrated If you don't know tubes, I'm against vintage for you. Too much tweaking and maintenance. You easily can find a Jolida in that range. All you need is 8 watts per channel with Klipsch. 40 watts will make them scream. Another solution is a pre and po...
Word of advice on upgraditis improvements You will be surprised at how much a powered sub will help. Not only will it fill in the low end, it will alleviate a lot of stress on the receiver which should make it sound better and run cooler at high volumes. Even a $110 10" Yamaha will do the...
Best Cost No Object pre-pro is? Sunfire & Anthem are both hard to beat and fairly easy to use. Theater is great, video is great, 2 channel will keep up with any 2 channel units.
Question on amp power and speaker ohms. Most tube amps don't double power output with halving of impedance. 15wpc is all you get.Try both taps for 6 ohms. Use which ever sounds best. |
