Studio/Performance Amps for High-End Systems? Why? There is definitely a compromise using an instrument amp. The little things like RCA to 1/4 inch adaptors for the jacks will degrade the sound more than you think, especially balanced to RCA adaptors (different impedance).I owned some fairly ...
Need advice choosing a complimentary CD Player I had my Music Hall modded by Chris Johnson at partsconnexion. It is amazing. Underwood does the same mod. I had a special request is why I went to Chris. You can also get a Denon and a few more done also. It's amazing what the difference is. And,...

Vandersteen 2 help-which ones? kmulkey-THANKS.Easier than bugging the manufacturer.
Vandersteen 3A Sig + Krell KSA-100S or Linn LK140? Aren't the Vandy's bi-wireable? If so, you can always add a second amp.
Speaker A/B Option With Separates? You can get a simple little Adcom switchbox, A/B/C speakers. The only problem is you won't have separate volume controls. That's why multiroom receivers are so nice. Different volumes in each room and even different sources.
audio from comcast and other providers Avoid the audio outputs from the TV. If you can go directly from the cable box to the stereo it will sound much better. The TV will just add unwanted noise.By the way, don't expect the cable music to sound anywhere nearly as good as a cd. This is ...
Studio/Performance Amps for High-End Systems? A lot of "stage" gear, not necessarily "studio" gear like Crown, QSC and Crest have higher distortion allowances. They are designed for volume and abuse more than quality. Also, the cooling fans in them are usually unbearable for a home system. I'...
Klipsch La Scala --two types? Jax2 is absolutely correct. The home version is prettier/more wife friendly. These are huge. You will 95% of the quality and sound with a pair of Cornwalls if the size is an issue. An Onkyo running them? Nah...not in the same league. The Onkyo will ha...
do tubes have anything to do with volume? Need a tube tester. Or, find someone in your area with one and bribe/imbibe them. Pittsburgh?
do tubes have anything to do with volume? I think they affect volume. If your tubes are quite old and near the end of their lives, they may sound weaker and definitely less dynamic. Output tubes in my system that are testing at 50% will have muddy bass, soft highs and not a lot of headroom.
HK Signature 2.0 or NuForce AVP-16 If you are in the $800 range, my choice hands down is the Anthem AVM-2. Amazing sound and quality. Very nice remote. I like the sound much better than the "sterile" sound of the AVP2.Either one will blow away the 2.1 WHICH IS OBSOLETE. Nice DACs, ...
HK Signature 2.0 or NuForce AVP-16 The 2.0 was very very good when it came out. Now, it is almost obsolete except as a 2 channel pre amp. In my opinion, $200 is too much. The Sig 2.1 amp is still great though.
Need p-stage for Sota/Audioquest/audiotechnica Grimace, stick with your shure for now. Consider an external phono stage that will take both mm and mc. That should help. Then consider a new cartridge? Honestly, borrow my Cambridge 640 for a couple of days and see how much that helps. I think it...
any advice appreciated If $200 is your budget on a cd, use a dvd player ($50) and spend more on an integrated amp or receiver. You could get an older B&K pre and power combo for that much and it will sound much better than an NAD.For great NAD prices, check out www.... |
