Favourite Guitar CDs
In the vein of albums not yet noted, I'll nominate Bob Mould, specifically in his Sugar incarnation and the _Copper Blue_ album. Turn it up loud and be overwhelmed and awed at what can come from a single guitar.Although its probably showing my age...
Question about 12v trigger on Denon 3803
Also make sure you are using mini *mono* plugs, not mini stereo plugs... Rat Shack sells both kinds.
What makes your Home Theater system
What makes my HT special?I'm not into sharing armrests. And, I get to pause the film when I need a bathroom break. Oh yeah, my chair is much more comfortable than the fake velvet fold down chair in the theater with the gum and nachos stains on it....
Digital Direct TV vs HD via Cable
This is pre-actual ownership to see if you can get it. You get on your roof with the compass, you figure out the direction of the satellite, you use the level and the protractor to figure azimuth, lining the straw up on the protractor, and then yo...
Digital Direct TV vs HD via Cable
You are right about all the video sat services being in geosync orbit over the equator, but... The difference in elevation angle relates to which equatorial slot the licensee has. If the satellite is longitudinally equatorial, but latitudinally co...
Digital Direct TV vs HD via Cable
Hey Tom, I had both at the same time too, and now I have only one. And its not DirecTV. It all depends on your signal quality--I had SAT A, B, and C in the high 80s to high 90s and I still get better PQ from Comcast. YMMV.OTA is free, and that is ...
Converting toslink output to coax
The most useful reference seemed to be:"The signal at (used to drive) the toslink is the same signal as used for the coax out. So, find an old unit (Cd player) that has a coax out and remove it's tramsformer. Or you can use resistors to scale a 75...
Help with inverted phase Newbie Question
If you invert twice, you are in phase. Inverted phase is 180 degrees out of phase. Invert again, you are 360 degrees out of phase, which is really 0 degrees out of phase, which means you aren't out of phase. If that makes sense.
HDTV plasmas with 4000:1 contrast ratio.
I just hooked up my TH-42PWD6 today, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. I thought the specs on the HD version did say 3000:1, versus 4000:1 for the EDTV. I have to say, however, that according to the AVSForum folks, contrast ratios are highly su...
Digital Direct TV vs HD via Cable
CATV is highly dependent on where you are--who your provider is and how far away from the headend you are. In my old house, I had Comcast digital CATV and thought it was terrible. So, when I moved, I ordered DirecTV and was very excited by the pro...

That is strange, b/c I thought musicians favored the Mac environment, so I figure they would have given more attention to that context. My Sonica hasn't given me any issues on my XP system.Lots of good DACs in the $300-$500 range--stuff changes so...

I seem to recall seeing that there was some known issue with the Mac's audio USB interface. You might want to call M-Audio and see if they have any insight...
Help with inverted phase Newbie Question
I followed the link and, interestingly, the "Wood Effect" didn't come up. So I searched the A'gon archives, and it seems it hasn't come up at all... I don't know why I remembered the WE, but I think some piece of gear I had explained (probably a t...

I looked at the Slimp3 from Slim Devices for my other stereos, and ended up with a bunch of Audiotrons instead:http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/audiotron/producthome.aspThe Slimp3 (and the SQBX) are server push--means you have to have soft...

To my ears, the combination of the Theta and the MAudio Sonica sounds better than the Stereolink. My setup is actually sounding a bit worse right now, b/c I just moved the stereo across the office, and with some other changes, now have PC -> MA...
