Repair tech for Linn LP 12?
Ooh, did I love Shelley's Stereo!
what system musicians prefer? Do they care?
Certainly, there's got to be exceptions galore, but I've found over the years that musicians usually aren't audiophiles. Mostly they either spurn or just don't care about the accuracy of reproduction.  They'd rather spend their time and money else...

Mahgister (did I mention this, but can I call you Louie?), good points.  And I got to agree that my Linguistics professors were probably just having a bit of sport with the more uptight students.
Classical Music for Aficionados
rok2id.  Love the 2nd Piano Concerto. My favorite performance is a fleet, unaffected 1940's recording featuring pianist William Kappel and the NBC Symphony.

vladtheimpala -- back when I was in grad school getting an M.A. in Linguistics (a pursuit that took me absolutely nowhere BTW), the professors would utter an "Ugh! Orthography!" whenever somebody brought up spelling. I also gotta say that, spellch...

schmitty -- yeah, Bill Nelson... A truly excellent fret flyer. I saw Bebop Deluxe at the Santa Monica Civic. For the third encore, Nelson came out alone and, in the tradition of Al Jolson,  promised to solo until the audience asked him to stop. Ev...
Lack of Female Representation
I'm happy to report that disapproval of my stereo obsession is not only nearly universal among those I hang with, it's divided a near perfect fifty percent by gender. This website might actually be the only place I get support for my obsession.  B...
Favorite Guitar Solo
Mick Ronson's soaring, we've-left-earth's-atmosphere outro on Ziggy Stardust's Moon Age Daydream.Television's Tom Verlaine's  maniacal, psychotic solo on "Friction," from the band's debut album. I saw the band at the Whiskey.
Favorite Guitar Solo
I'll break my own rule.  Jerry Garcia's solo on Dark Star in the Live Dead LP.

Thanks. A lot of excellent choices here.  And I was hoping most of you would ignore my request to only choose one. It was just a feeble attempt on my part to focus you guys a bit.
Classical music listening... what is a better source High Rez or Vinyl?
simonmoon -- I have lots and lots of Nonesuch LPs in my collection.  Pressings can be iffy and not every release sounds good (most do, though!), but all in all it is it is one of my favorite labels.  Always interesting. Always just a bit offbeat. ...
Lack of Female Representation
The wife has a very nice system that she keeps in the living room.  For a while she had a Linn Sondek and still has a decent selection of LPs.  Yeah, my high end system, coupled with the fact that I have a special room for it, does garner its shar...
TONE
bdp -- I gotta tell you that it isn't easy to record a human voice.  Whenever I've played back a human voice I've recorded, it's always come up short when compared to the live voice that was in front of me.  The recording might suffer from midrang...

What rvpiano sez... Putting it another way, when it comes to music, streaming is the proverbial Aladdin’s Cave. Admittedly, the classical selection will never be quite as luxurious as the one I had access to when I worked at Tower Classical Record...
Classical music listening... what is a better source High Rez or Vinyl?
I have to admit that many of my London and Angel/EMI LPs, especially the operas, do sound better than anything I get either via CD or streaming. Then again, I have to reiterate that it's the original recording that ultimately counts, not the forma...
