Bootleg albums. Favs and stories
My Bowie live double LP bootleg can sound terrible but it contains some truly excellent performances of Bowie and the Spiders, both intimate and full throttle.
Long distance move - Trust moving company unpack
I'll join in the chorus. Pack the stuff yourself and do the task with all the nitpicking madness that made you an audiophile in the first place. Likewise, open and unpack the boxes and reassemble the system yourself. There are just too many quirky...
What's the oddest thing in your music collection?
Like mapman, I have loads of ancient, oddball stuff I inherited from my parents. There's the 78rpm shellac of their marriage ceremony, which was broadcast on a  radio show that did that sort of thing. I have 45 rpm comedy singles. I have a passel ...
If there was only ONE album/cd/release you can listen to, over and over.............
You guys got me searching for my Jeff Buckley "Grace" album. No trace of it on the shelves, either on LP or CD. Ah... It's on Qobuz...  BTW, I'm a big fan of Tim Buckley, the dad Jeff supposedly hated. Still have Tim's LPs. Maybe I mentioned this ...
Amazon music vs Qobuz
@robshaw Count me in as one more guy who consistently prefers the stream I get via my dedicated streamer/DAC over what I get from my Microsoft laptop. More color. More space. More dynamics. Less distortion. Cleaner, more beautiful sound. Of course...
Am I Getting Soft Here?
Enjoying another truly wonderful listen right now via Idagio. A 1966 recording of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (the Marriage of Figaro). Conducted by Otmar Suitner. Sung in German. Everybody is having a smashingly good time as they prowl a remarkab...
A cartridge with more bite, please and thank you
I agree with rushfan71 -- a Lyra.

I'm not going to touch classical music, but for everything else, probably Ziggy Stardust.
Songs of debauchery and excess
Bowie -- practically the entire first side of Aladdin Sane. From "Watch that Man" to "Cracked Actor."
Elly Ameling
I've been a fan of Elly Ameling ever since I heard her Mahler Fourth one evening on the radio, some time in the 1970's. I was instantly a Mahler fan and a classical vocal fan, as well. I went to the local record store not long afterwards. They had...
What am I missing?
At least with my rig, I often get my finest fidelity via Qobuz’s’ Hi-Rez streams. A good half the time it beats out what I get from my LPs.   Though their streams aren’t officially Hi-Rez, Idagio’s streams can deliver me excellent sound, as well...
Amazon music vs Qobuz
hilde45 -- Yeah, I guess they had to come up with something that was unused and sounded vaguely classical. In any case, I may have mentioned this before here but Idagio seems to have about every classical recording ever released. From Karl Muck to...
Grace F-9E
I enjoyed my Grace F-9e a bunch. An enjoyable stopover in my audiophile journey.
Amazon music vs Qobuz
When I acquired the ability to stream music I got trial subscriptions to both Tidal and Qobuz. Qobuz won the face-off and I still enjoy it immensely. It didn’t matter that for a time I also had MQA capability.   As a classical nut, I also truly ...
How Did Your First Audiophile Experience Impact Your Audio Journey?
I've mentioned my audiophile history several times on this site, but I can't help but tell it again -- My dad was an audiophile/tinkerer. I watched him solder together Heathkit mono components on the kitchen table, including a tube power amp and ...
