My first tube integrated: which one to get?
I've been around stereo gear since the components only had one channel and they called it called hi-fi.  I was there before transistors, as well. In any case, maybe I'm now truly deaf & over the hill but I just can't help but think of my Prima...
Welcome to Hell, here's your 8-Track
I know I’ve mentioned this countless times before, but my dad was an unmitigated hi-fi nut of the WWII generation who always had to have the latest HiFi gadget or tech, from transistor electronics to stereophonic to quad to various media sources. ...
Liquid Stylus Cleaners
I've got a veritable circus of stylus/cartridge paraphernalia at my disposal. Depending on my mood, I might give the stylus a single back-to-front brush with a rather stiff Last Brush, or brush it with an unbranded soft brush I got with a stylus c...
Classical piano solo—Your one favorite performance and recording
How about if I duly proclaim some absolute, incontrovertible boundaries for the various periods of what I shall refer to as Serious Music? To be sure, actual historical dates cannot be accurately ascertained but the composers who introduced the va...
Do your speakers bite??
I love the snap of a snare and the tsing of a trumpet or sax, but  when the sound acquires an overall hardness I quickly cease being a happy listener. But oh yes, back in the days when I listened to Vin Scully doing the Dodgers on AM, the hardness...
Stylus skipping at beginning of record
As the record revolves, the stylus naturally wants to skate toward the center of the record, and anti-skate is meant to keep this from happening.  So do your best to get the amount of anti-skate as dead-on as possible. My method of achieving this...
Classical piano solo—Your one favorite performance and recording
These recordings are still magic to me. They actually induced me to buy pianos that were, ahem, a trifle more expensive than my abilities deserved. Recording quality, of course, varies. Rudolf Serkin -- Beethoven's Hammerklavier Sonata. Phillipp...
I seem to have hit the jackpot here
Rossini, Six Sonatas for Strings. The Arso Ensemble.
Disappearing Jazz?
I just cruise Qobuz. If something catches my eye I'll ring it up and give it several cuts to ingratiate me. Putting it another way, thanks to streaming and a small bribe via your credit card, Santa Claus is never more than a few clicks away.
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
I still bear a grudge against Mytek (both the maker and the internet site I bought it from) for not giving me even a trace of accommodation when my Brooklyn Streamer/DAC/Phono Amp died pretty much the day it went out of warranty.  And, damn, the t...
Primaluna?
@aseaman007  Tube amps are considered more romantic sounding  than solid state because, more often than not, their signature sound has a little less treble than a typical solid state amp, and their bass has a bit less kick drum/electric bass punc...
The Good Stuff
Try "The Dance at the Gym" from the Spielberg West Side Story soundtrack. On Qobuz. It never fails to get me out of my listening chair and dancing around like a wild man..
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
Quality musical instruments ain't exactly cheap, either.
Is the seated-centered solo listening to music a dated tech?
You neglect to mention one of the most wonderful things about stereophonic and surround sound -- its ability to literally immerse a listener in a field of sound. To construct a virtual (or highly fanciful) replica of the venue where the music was ...
audio not working
Stuff like that happens to me often. Usually the solution is simply to make sure my USB cable(s) are properly plugged in and that my laptop's speaker button isn't on Mute.
