Is there anything better than live recordings?
This thread has provoked a wicked game of hide-and-seek with my now unreliable memory. I humbly ask to be excused if I repeat stuff I've already mentioned on this site. As much as I love my Zeppelin albums, I enjoyed their live concert still more...
Is there anything better than live recordings?
All told, I enjoy the studio-made recordings in my collection more than the live ones. Even when they were meticulously assembled, a lot of the studio-produced LPs in my collection emotionally and viscerally  punch through. I just love my old Door...
Best container to move prized records between homes? Thanks!
When I moved across the ocean, I personally, carefully packed my LPs in cardboard boxes supplemented with LP sized cardboard inserts. I packed the LPs tightly, hoping that it would minimize warping caused by the boxes perhaps being left in the sun...
Warm Take on Professional Audio Equipment Reviews
@noromance  Sure, Stereophile's policy here does smack a little from cronyism, but it is not out-and-out dishonest.  If you trust their ears, it makes it easier to choose components for your own personal audition.  ...As long as, of course, you yo...
The people we meet from this hobby
Your guy is pretty far gone, but I've known my share of deeply involved aficionados as well. Then again, more than a few folks think I'm also a hair over the edge. The mere existence of a dedicated, tweaked out audio room is enough for some to wan...
Ultimate stereo nightmare
Xlnt!
Those singers you enjoy,....that don't really have a great voice?
@ticat To my ears, David Bowie possessed one of the finest singing voices ever. Tone. Diction. Range. Emotional expression. To be sure, there were a number of albums where he went to places his voice perhaps should not have gone, but being unafrai...
Using streaming as a main source ---DSD, FLAC, MQA Streamers and DACS
When I had hardware capable of MQA decoding (hardware which went belly up a mere couple days after the warranty expired🤣), I had already decided that I enjoyed the fidelity I got from non-MQA capable Qobuz more than I got from the MQA capable Tida...
Midrange hearing loss, u shape.
This is the first I've "heard" of that problem, though in my old age I do have a measure of midrange ringing in my ears. What's more, whenever I put on one of my stereo test recordings with frequency response bands, it's always the highs that ain'...

Fun thread! Lots of artists I love to lampoon. There's my whiny falsetto Neil Young. My grunty Joe Cocker. My still lower-pitched grunty Tom Waits.
Ultimate stereo nightmare
Cue up some complex, near-impenetrable music. Things are working swell. It's time to go off the deep end for a bit of hey-why-the-heck-not selections.
Ultimate stereo nightmare
Pull it all apart. Start from scratch and reconnect one component...maybe two components a day..to keep your lower back, feet, etc., from filing a complaint. When you plug one of the cables in and you get no sound, you've found your glitch. When y...
Audio gear, sonic quality when you listen in less (or non-) focused ways
I honestly don't care about fidelity when I'm in my car. As long as sibilants aren't too spitty and bass isn't overpoweringly boomy, I'm pretty okay with it. When I'm at a bar, restaurant or a friend's house, I'm just as non-critical.
Favourite Guitarists
mszmsi --  I have a John Renbourn guitar book. For a time I could play several of his solo tunes on my acoustic guitar. Then again, I probably haven't attempted them since the turn of the century. Have I mentioned that I saw Pentangle at the Troub...
Those singers you enjoy,....that don't really have a great voice?
Zevon was a passable singer at best. He's another folk rocker I saw at the Troubadour (and another recording artist who showed up at one of my sister's parties). Jagger's voice was unpolished to say the least, but it had charisma and integrity to ...
