Upgrading my PV-15
s/h cj prem 16 if you can afford it - it will blow you away with its all round musicality and IMO sounds better than the CT5.s/h prem14 if you can't afford prem 16.cheers
Is it worth it to repair a cj pv2ar?
Why don't you send the pre amp back to cj for repair. they might even have some upgrades they can do to enhance the sound.
conrad johnson LP 275's or 140's
Thanks Arthur That cj warmth you heard on the LP 140m'a sounds good for my musical preferences. I agree when I heard the prem 140 a couple years back it was too cold, not unlike ARC gear - too analytical for me.
Top line phono stages with at least 2 inputs
TW Acustic Phono stage - I am with Dgad on this one. new model has about 64db of gain.
Are our 'test' records adequate?
Hi Henry, got that davinci arm singing now? I totally agree that SS amps are getting a lot better. I had an extended listen at home very recently to the Gryphon Colosseum and Antileon. The Colosseum especially was a great sounding amplifier. Tube ...
Are our 'test' records adequate?
HalcroCould it be that these early recordings were mastered with nice tube electronics and sound as intended and therefore sound great with excellent tube gear?.Being feed by SS amps will sound brighter and leaner in these mentioned upper frequenc...
need amplification help for sonus faber amati
I own the Strad's and 2x Mac MC2102 tube amps are very nice. A lot better than the SS Mac amps IMO. If you can't find s/h in Europe, I would contact audioclassics and have them convert the voltage and ship over to you.good luck
Plinius 9100 vs 9200

What is the Phono stage you have finished with?
Sonofijn, I won't answer for Dgad. I also have the TW Acustik phono stage that Dgad recommended I have a listen to. Dgad also has the TRON. Yes, the TW does deliver in the lower frequencies, however it is not as obvious as some phono stages with S...
What is the Phono stage you have finished with?
Dopouge - do you have any issues with noise - ie tube rush. I have had the rhea home twice and heard the IO and all units had(to me) noticible tube noise at loud levels. My cartridges are around .35 mv.I would have luved the IO, however too noisy....
What is the Phono stage you have finished with?
After owning few phono stages - fm acustics 122, cj prem 15, pass xono, EAR 834, Mac c2300 - still have the last 2.and listening to a hell of a lot more - sutherland PHD, EAR 88PB, Aesthetix IO, RCM phono, ARC PH5 & PH7, Manley Steelhead, Eins...
Ortofon SPU's outdated design?
Dazzdax, you seem to be forgetting that you are buying a dinosaur from the 50's that has the specific " SPU sound" that was used in radio station to get more presence coming thru. that is a forward bump in the 200 to 1500 hz frequency. This makes...
Opinions on vintage cj amps and Teflon cap mods
cj are using their expensive proprietary teflon caps for these offered upgrades, which they use in all their new way more expensive amps. I am sure cj would not offer the upgrades if they did not feel they gave a noticible improvement over there o...
