Has anyone heard the SAT XD1
@daveyf @lewm I forgot to mention that Davey was right to point out there is no analogy between the value or cost of vintage Ferrari race cars and the SAT turntable or tonearms.  I'm not so sure. I see the arm and turntable quite differently. From ...
Has anyone heard the SAT XD1
While what lewm says is true, there is a revived interest in vinyl, it has ( from what I can tell) nothing to do with the audiophile hobby, and more to do with the physical media itself. The largest turntable market here in New Zealand by a conside...
Has anyone heard the SAT XD1
@daveyf Yes, I’ve seen the pricing, and I have no issue with it.If I could afford it and it was the best, based on my own in home audition, I’d buy it.For those of us who cant afford it, I still welcome these products on the basis of pushing the e...

@daveyf The value proposition is very straightforward - for the customer to own something unique and expensive. Most wealthy folk assume that if you pay more you get a better product, particularly when it comes to technilogical based products. For ...
Vintage DIN phono cables, any good?
It's easy to see that depending on where the cable was, it could very well be in either excellent shape or in terrible shape. A lot of time the damage is hidden under the plastic insulation. Yes - and if it avoided the tsunami, did it survive Fuku...
Looking for a phono stage with pleasing coloration
arize84That sounds very promising. Looks like if you just let everything settle in you are on the way. I would suggest just enjoy, and have another look at fine tuning with loading  once everything is run in in a couple of weeks.

The Paua is not a lean cartridge, I know from experience.I listened to the Paua many times mounted on an SME 20 TT with both the Soundsmith phono and Linn Uphorik - both solid state, but have the ability to load up to 1000ohms.As I stated in my ea...
VPI Shyla cartridge?
If you look at the Prime 21 vs the Prime 21+ you are paying a US$2000 premium for a rebadged Audio Technica ART9 which you can buy for a US1k and a better phono cable. This is typical VPI upselling strategy. The only benefit I can see is it comes p...
Replacing LP12 arm with Well Tempered Simplex Arm
In my experience 2nd hand tonearms can be problematic, you never know whether they have been mistreated, and are in good order.I would suggest you get your Linn serviced, and see if you can afford either the Ekos or new Krane arm made for Linn by ...
Looking for a phono stage with pleasing coloration
The EAR 834 is unsuitable for the same reasons I outlined above - the ability to adjust load 470-1000 ohms with high gain.
Looking for a phono stage with pleasing coloration
Good idea. But note the Decware SUT uses infinitely adjustable loading - on the fly - simply turn the knob. Not correct. With a SUT the loading is determined by the gain of the SUT and the phono input impedance. The highest load the Decaware SUT can ...

I know the Paua well - I suggest you start by auditioning the matching Soundsmith phono - as the loading and gain requirements for the Paua are unusual - ie gain of a moving coil stage, but the ability to adjust the loading between 500 and 1000 ohms.

What tonearm & cartridge is currently fitted to your  Linn.
2020 update : JC Verdier La Platine
ledoux,Thanks for the feedback. The Final Audio stuff is unobtainable now.I prefer AC motors because they lock to frequency and error correction due to stylus drag is self induced and reasonably benign, whereas DC motors require constant monitoring...
2020 update : JC Verdier La Platine
@perart1 I think we are on the same page. There is a lack of mechanical grunge that is where the Verdier shines over many other TT's. It has a very low noise floor. It is very enticing. I sold the Verdier to a friend who owned an SME20 and he was ...
