AT-ART9XI Cartridge - Reduced Compliance
@keegiam Bear in mind that if you are using your Classe Audio 6 MkII phono, the recommended minimum is 0.3mv. If the gain is marginal the 0.2mv XA will sound will probably sound thin. I think it would be safer to go with the 0.5mv XI and ensure yo...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms
Kondo is too expensive! How about Crystal Silver Gold Alloy Tonearm Cables?Or Nordost Frey II?  What about the Kondo copper phono cable, it is reasonably priced.Nordost, personally I find to be very hifi - very clean and crisp, but does not sound ...

@lewm Thanks for the info, I was aware of the science on this, and use them myself in this application. It was the $$$ silver grounding cables I'm less sure about. Do you have any experience with the original non magnetic shinkoh tantalum resistor...

@frogman Does single crystal oxygen free copper have an inherently different sound than plain old copper? Some feel it does. Both are copper....no? Why should it? I don’t know. Jus’ sayin.. I have spoken to some designers who believe "dirty copper...

@halcro What could possibly explain the differences here, is that the proportions of the RUBY CANTILEVER to the SAPPHIRE CANTILEVER appear to be different? The main theory for going to exotic cantilever materials is not only stiffness, to improve r...
Hear my Cartridges....🎶
@halcro So on the usual macair/airbudsSapphire appears initially more resolving on both pieces of music.Ruby cantilever is awful - splashy top end and lacks definition from the midrange down. Weavers on the Ruby is unlistenable. Orchestral less so...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms
Isamu Ikeda recommended copper based phono cable with his silver wired arms - he believed in balancing the sonic attributes of each cable type.Personally, with my silver wired FR64S, I use different cables depending on cartridge - for moving coils...
Is idler drive better than belt drive or direct drive?
@teo_audioIf we modified a impact testing rig so the given edge of the moving or rotating platter could impact upon said impact gear, we could probably prove, via data obtained... that idler wheel is better than belt or direct drive. Not necessari...
Is idler drive better than belt drive or direct drive?
A very informative and interesting YouTube can be pulled up by:“Garrard 301 vs Studer reel to reel”. Not only is this one of the best sound quality MP4s I have heard, it is a great comparison. When he changes from TT to Tape, you don’t want him to...
Review: Sempersonus TE-2 Idler-Type Turntable System (TW Raven 12/Charisma Signature One)
@dodgealum Great write up.Just a small technical point. This is not an idler turntable. An idler turntable is when you have an idler wheel between the motor pulley and platter ( hence the name "idler" ).Sempersonus drives the platter directly off ...
Phono Preamp. With transformer or fully active
If one choses to use a loading network and likes the sonic results, that is fine. I have always found that sonically, loading is the worst thing you can do to a transformer and using anything more than the absolute minimum required is relying on a...
Phono Preamp. With transformer or fully active
Which phono stage is this?  Zesto 1.2 uses Jensen transformers with zobel network in place.
Remember the Ringmat? You should!
Turntable mats are like seasonings on food. They certainly make an important difference, but no one of us is in a position to say whether the perceived difference that one guy hears is right or wrong. Like salt and pepper, it’s a matter of taste. ...
Phono Preamp. With transformer or fully active
Jensen named the parts of the Zobel Rdamp and Cdamp which clearly tells its purpose. I do not know of any phono stage inputs with those parts intentionally in placeI do, it retails for $3500 and has had stellar reviews. It would be interesting to s...
re-tipping Dynavector17D?
Chak, you frequently recommend the 17D2. As you know, it has been superseded by the 17D3, more than a decade ago or even two decades ago, and even the 17D3 has been discontinued and replaced by the 17DX@lewm Thats probably because he's reached th...
