A question of loading...
@fsonicsmith 47K is the standard for MM. Not for MC.Whats your point. Are you loading at 50k as you claim or 50 ohms ?We vinyl junkies, for better or worse, refer to lower capacitance as unloading even though you are technically correct. MC's are ...
"The Analog Guy," David Fletcher passes away at the age of 81.
Yes, he was a pioneer in many ways. He had golden ears, could hear system issues, phase issues within seconds of listening to an unknown system. The Sota turntable and Sumiko MDC800 were seminal products. The earlier Sumiko moving coil cartridges w...
A question of loading...
@fsonicsmith Your 1st email above is impossible to decipherunloading to 25 does produce a very euphonic lively sound25 what ? - 25 ohms or 25kohms ?If you mean 25ohms you are loading the cartridge, not unloading it.If you mean 25kohms, then you ar...
A question of loading...
@daveyf The reason I asked  about the actual loading on MC is because I was wondering how they got the extra 11db for the MC input. If they used low gain transformers then the actual load would be 47k/turns ratio (of the transformer )squared - whi...
Is my anti-skating too strong.
@pgtaylor Yes - I triangulate the three methods.Step 1 - I use Soundsmith's technique of setting by dropping the stylus between the inner grooves in the run off and doing an initial set.Step 2 - I then use the Allen Wright method, running up from ...
A question of loading...
I've been running MC's into 47k since the 80's sans step up transformers. Do you know what load the Kleos is seeing at the moment ?

Best cost no object tube phono
Adding the SUT will just kick dynamics into a whole new gear.. their combination is just superb!Low gear. SUT's have phase shifts that vary across the frequency spectrum. They cannot preserve accurate time & phase relationships across the full...
Analog Tube Audio: where is my SME 3009?
@f456gt I think you are being unreasonable given the pandemic and its implications. He already indicated that he would need some time.I have purchased products from him and the response to emails was prompt and service was excellent.Last week I se...
Best cost no object tube phono
@atmasphere I would be interested to know with paralleled tube circuits, how can you ensure the tube sections parallelled are matched, and stay matched over a reasonable time. If they are not perfectly matched, then I would assume smearing of sign...
Help - Phono stages dying!!
@slashsmil I would borrow another integrated amplifier if possible, and try running for it a week. If you can eliminate the amplifier it will narrow down the cause to the front end. After that if it still occurs, try another cartridge if you have a...
Question on VTF (What should i adjust it to?)
@kro77 If the cartridge is brand new, I set it at the upper range of tracking until it is run in.After a week of running in, I then revisit the tracking force usually set to middle of range. I also revisit VTA after run in and tracking force optim...
Micro Seiki MA-505 variants - any oracles around?
The Micro Seiki  505LS is silver wired, the 505LX is copper wired.I'm pretty sure all the Micro arms that are silver wired all have a big "S" logo on the back end of the armtube.
The best TT system for under 30K
@uwiikzSome folk have to find fault with product they cant afford or are not prepared to invest in. At the end of the day you have purchased an outstanding turntable package. I have spent much time with the Kuzma 4Point11 tonearm, and the great th...
Best settings for my first MC cart
@madijay I agree with @noromance on setting the gain to 60db, but loading I would dial in by ear - go up and down the loading options and hear for yourself what sounds best.
