Technics SL-1210GAE Anniversary
@luisma31i, Hi Luis, any cartridge that is damaged, worn, not set up correctly or mismatched with the tonearm runs the risk of mistracking. Mistracking damages records, at worst you get a noise like a scratch or scuff from the damaged groove. Furt...
Ideas For Phono Cable For My Turntable.
@stereo5 Remember that $300 20 years ago was quite a lot in todays terms - The Absolute Sound regarded Discovery cable as phenomenal performance value back in the day.You might get a cable with different spectral balance for $600 but I suspect no ...
Technics SL-1210GAE Anniversary
Chakster, Have you heard the Nagaoka JT1210? If so, what were its shortcomings compared to the cartridges you commonly recommend?  @lewm Chakster is Rauls alter ego - whilst Raul has heard everything, and doesn't know what it sounds like, Chakste...
Ideas For Phono Cable For My Turntable.
There nothing wrong with your discovery cable - changing will be a lottery. I agree with @williewonka above - the Audiomods arm is a bargain and significant upgrade on the 1200 if you can afford to spend a little more. Otherwise I wouldn't bother....

Review of the SMARTractor and SMARTstylus
So we are playing with a P2S accuracy level of at least 0.38mm. to make the set up and with the same difference in the overhang. We have two points where we always are off because that kind of accuracy just we can’t achieve in this mechanical set ...
Record clamp/weight and turntable speed
Nobody makes a proper clamp so I had to build one myself. It has been improved since these pictures were taken but the key features are the same.  Two main features: the thick washer that fits over the spindle, and the under side of the clamp is d...
Reed 2gTonearm Torn Wire & rewiring HELP please
@docfarI hope you realise that tonearm bearings are fragile. If you have applied enough force to tear the cable you may well have demaged the bearings. You should send the arm back to Reed for repair and check for any other wear or damage.I would h...
Trans-Fi Terminator Tonearm: 2019 Update
@ledoux1238Re the isolation transformer. So i have to be careful because how the power is delivered varies by country. In new Zealand we have 230V and separate phase, neutral AND ground. An isloation transformer is simply a 1 to 1 transformer - 230v...
Trans-Fi Terminator Tonearm: 2019 Update
@ledoux1238When I had my Eminent Technology ET2 running on lower pressure similar to the Transfi putting the air pump on an isolating transformer improved the sound quite considerably, even with copious amounts of surge tank capacity in situ.
What about Uni Din?
Some may argue the virtues of using complex tools to set up their tables, but we must keep in perspective that this complex process is also a significant part of the hobby for them. But what is the intent. The reality is that a properly set up mid p...
Still Need Help
For a wall mounted shelf to isolate feedback the wall needs to be a structural wall or load bearing wall, otherwise the wall moves with the floor.Other feedback issues, assuming the turntable is set up correctly, could be in room base response. Lo...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
Tonearm damping is a bandaid for poorly designed arms or turntables and/or mismatched arm/cartridge.In my experience with many arms, even those with damping facilities provided, the application of fluid damping slugs the sound, particularly in spe...
Reed 3P armboard mounting
Mount the armband, measure accurately from the spindle and mark out hole centres.Rule of thumb is measure twice, cut once.Cut holes 1mm oversize, this will give you enough wriggle room to ensure accuracy.Use nuts/washers on the underside of the ar...
Need a sut for Hana ml
@bobsdevices I have used both the Hana SL and Hana ML as demo cartridges at audio shows, and have experimented with many different step up ratios. The Hana SL is perfect at 1:10. The Hana ML is perfect at 1:20. I highly recommend 1:20 with the ...
