More CD Player selection woes
Raysonic CD-128. Check the l-o-n-g review on 6moons. Built like a battleship and sounds absolutely wonderful. Two audiobuddies bought them after hearing (or hearing about) mine. I've had the Raysonic for 18 months with zero problems and sold a Son...
idler wheel vs direct drive technics impressions
Thanks, Stringreen, but since the Lenco cost a fraction of what the VPI rim drive does, I think I'll remain in blissful ignorance. Emphasis on blissful :-)
idler wheel vs direct drive technics impressions
I've had two of Jean's Lencos (the newer one accommodates two tonearms including 12-inchers) and continue to be astonished by how great they sound. My old VPI TNT Mk II couldn't hold a candle to either of them. I doubt that adding an external driv...
Grado cartridge marked
Yes it's "The Reference" and MSRP is $1200. I had one.
Decca London Gold cartridge nightmare
Steve, how do you use a Decca in the RS-A1. Both the "headshell" and the Decca mount have threaded holes. Frankly, it sounds like a marriage made in hell but after using an RS-A1 for a couple of months, I'm inclined to believe anything is possible...
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape
Sarcasm? Moi? I'm a big tape fan myself but up until recently Mike was on, er, record saying his LPs sounded better than tape. Things have obviously changed. Dave
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape
Viridian, you haven't checked Mike Lavigne's latest reel-to-reel epiphany over on the Vinyl Asylum of AA.
Decca London Gold cartridge nightmare
Zieman it doesn't have a suspension in the first place. Dubhouse, you're absolutely correct. Warren Gregoire wouldn't sell one to me (Super Gold Mk. VII) until I confirmed that I was using a damped unipivot arm (JMW 10.5). Mine has none of the pro...
Help w/Power Conditioning: Shunyata, Furman, RGPC?
Two of my friends and I use Tice Power Block III conditioners, built like tanks, often available here for well under $1K. They do not appear to limit current, and all my SET and other power amps are plugged into them. I use two PS Audio P300 power...
RS-3 owners: Seeking anti-skate help
Good luck in your quest. I had something of the same feelings, as I read the impenetrable installation and operating instructions on this arm, plus Art Dudley's rather mystified review in the old Listener magazine, finally decided they were never ...
RS-3 owners: Seeking anti-skate help
All well and good, Quiddity, but you seem to have misunderstood the wonders of the RS arm :-)I can't blame anyone for doing this. You have to use the silly thing. I wouldn't have believed it either. Dave
RS-3 owners: Seeking anti-skate help
It may not be possible to eliminate the skating force, but after a couple of months' experience with the RS arm (not the headshell), you come to understand that -- laws of physics or not -- it simply doesn't matter.I know, I know. This was SONICALL...
My 2 cents about Gallo 3.1
I love these speakers. The more I play with positioning, cables, tweaks, etc. the better they sound.
Power Cable DIY - need advice
I like CryoMax III from Cryo-Parts. Some of my friends are using it too.
Gallo 3.1 owners
Just to repeat and confirm what Riley said, don't even think about "biwiring" the Gallos in the way you suggest. As to using 300B SETs, I'd be doubtful. My 845 SETs work fine but the amps have huge transformers and 845 tubes can put out much more ...
