Musical Power cable
I agree 100% with Rsjm80 about Lee Weiland and Cryo-Parts, except that I build the cables with Lee's CryoMax III wire and Furutech IEC and AC connectors on a DIY basis. I must have built 20 of these things for myself and friends at a per-cable cos...
Fed Ex Ground Shipping Woes
I've been reminded that "flawless" doesn't exactly characterize the situation when I FedExed my Sony XA777ES and the buyer and FedEx played tag for days. He did eventually get the unit and it was undamaged, but his experience wasn't the greatest :...
Fed Ex Ground Shipping Woes
Well, this is depressing. I just sent two packages this morning via FedEx Ground. I've had flawless service from them over the past 5 years. We'll see what happens this time and I'll report back if the thread still exists.
Koetsu Rosewood retip or replace
A friend of mine had his elderly Koetsu Rosewood retipped by Soundsmith and the cartridge sounds awfully good. This was Soundsmith's top-of-the-line retip, their Optimum Contour (OC) line contact stylus with ruby cantilever. It cost $350 plus ship...
Speaker Cables
Rpg, I'm using Morrow ICs -- single ended and balanced -- throughout my system. Phono cables too (his regular ICs, because they're unshielded, hum too much to be used as phono cables). I won't say I'll never replace them, but I'm VERY happy with t...
Speaker Cables
I'm using the older Morrow speaker cables (don't remember the model #) and prefer them over any other speaker cables I've tried. And I've tried a lot. I also highly recommend their ICs.
Record Cleaning brushes - experimentation?
For about 5 years I've been using nothing but the LAST brushes, currently 10 for $30. Easy to see when to discard them because they're white to start with. I use a separate one for each of the three AIVS cleaning fluids including the final Ultra-P...
New Gallo 3.5's
Those don't offer much height, though, compared to something like the Stein stands.
Are you using anti-skating or not
Never use it. My 12" arm has no anti-skating provisions. Neither does the Empire setup I use mostly for 78s (this one, with a Stanton 881 and set for LPs, will track all four torture tracks of that HiFi News test record). The second arm on my main...
SOTA Millennia - Comments?
Query John Elison over on the Vinyl Asylum of AA. He's a Millennia owner.
VPI Speed Problem
Thanks for the bone, I guess. My 12" tonearm has no provision for anti-skating and the shorter arm on the same table is used without anti-skating. I've done the CD/LP comparison in the past before I got the KAB strobe. It's a pain in the neck and ...
VPI Speed Problem
Here's what I did. I turned on the TT and let it run for 10 minutes or so. I put on a record. I don't use a weight or clamp, so that's immaterial. I put the 10" KAB strobe disc on top of the record. I checked the speed of the TT using the strobe d...
VPI Speed Problem
Without pursuing the laughingstock thing (readers can figure that one out for themselves), I'll say only that the thread began with an plea by the OP to understand why his turntable "sounds slow all the time." Seems to me that I'm not the one doin...
VPI Speed Problem
Hey John, watch that blood pressure. Deep breaths.Just thought of something and had come back to amend the post. If some turntables slow down under a monstrous 1.5g load of stylus drag, doesn't it stand to reason that they'll slow down even more d...
VPI Speed Problem
Nope, not a bit. My KAB strobe tells the story. Why should a mere 1.5g (or whatever) alter the TT speed?
