Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm They have to be all the same, with longer arms just sitting further away. I downloaded the manual from the US importer and printed out the protractor> https://www.sierrasound.net/s/RigidFloat-tonearm-manual.pdf
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm Yes, the bearings are aligned with an offset headshell, and all I have done is mounted the cartridge in the headshell to nullify the offset, and placed the arm such that the stylus aligns with the ViVLabs protractor. Thanks for the offer, but if ...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm Well, I tried...drilled my hole and then I printed out the gauge from the VivLabs RF manual which is available online. Next I tried a Jubilee. But if this is going to work, it probably needs a conventional cartridge. So I played an album I know we...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm Looking at the scrubbing motion caused by both horizontal and vertical deviations of the cantilever, it makes me realise that this may have been the "cantilever haze" that Decca declared their cartridges would not suffer from.
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm Looks like we are following in the footsteps of others. This is an interesting thread: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/dont-listen-to-records-on-fm.359025/ There are links to two different tonearm geometries playing a solo piano in po...
Need A High Compliance Cartridge @dmk_calgary I'm a huge fan of Deccas, but I wouldn't begin to know how to think of them in terms of compliance. The movement (particularly lateral movement) of the armature must be so small, I guess the proper description is "Compliance: not appl...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble? ...several of us in reality can't appreciate the real MUSIC and almost all go for what they like no matter what... You know, if you follow that argument to it's conclusion you can see we should all listen to our music through equipment that we ...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble? A short signal path is, of course, a desirable thing. But let us not lose sight of the alternative here: a complex signal path full of components in a head amp or in the MC amplification stage of the pre-amp. Compared to that, an extra pair of int...
Help with tone arm geometry and bass The mat itself can alter tonal response, but whether that can outweigh the change in VTA is the question. I'd take the mat off and adjust the height of the 309, especially as that is easy to do.
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm @rauliruegas " 26 tons of pressure per square inch at the cartridge stylus tip during its ridding " Now, I don't need an explanation how is that that skating force can the stylus tip under that tremendous and infernal pressure at the tip to spi...
Dimond Cantilevers And Tip Mass The new owner of the London Decca name has told me he hopes to restart production of the Reference and to offer a new version. He had suggested they would be available in August of this year. It is cheating, in a way, to include Deccas in this di...
Break in for a retip? My experience with re-tips is that they do not need any break-in, and sound as good as they ever will on the first play. If a cartridge has been rebuilt, though, I would expect it to need the suspension breaking in.
Anyone adjust cart set up due to ambient temperature changes? @macg19 yes, it worked and I got an e-mail notifying me.
SME service is terrible. Can’t buy any accessories from local dealers here in USA This thread has re-appeared due to the post above this (which has been removed). I'll add that Analogue Seduction sells SME parts, including oil, damping fluid and the HTA key, or an e-mail to Elaine Wratten at SME (sales@sme.ltd.uk) will also get...
Anyone adjust cart set up due to ambient temperature changes? Interesting! By 'dragging' you mean the rear of the cartridge touches the surface of the LP? I have a grandfather clock made in 1759, and it was not fitted with Harrison's new-fangled gridiron pendulum (1726), so I have to adjust it as in the hea... |
