What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes? One re-master definitely worth listening to is Steve Hoffman’s version of Joni Mitchell’s Blue. Lovely!
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired) I doubt any analog fans hang around streaming forums to tell them they are misguided, and so I wonder why they must come and rain on our parade?
Help me build up a jazz album collection. Can you suggest a must have album?
What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes? I'll have to watch for Opus 3's. I'm not sure I have any but I might. I have a fairly extensive collection and I often find things that I don't recall even buying. Getting old has it's advantages as well as disadvantages. :) I know what you mea...
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ? Exactly. Unlike cables, that in my view should be one step ahead of the active components or you won't hear what your system is capable of. Surely whichever component (including cables) is the least transparent is the rate-limiting factor? And ...
What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes? For me it is usually Opus 3's Test Record 1. Especially the first track, Therese Juel's Tiden Bara Går. Then Barbirolli's Elgar Cello Concert and Sea Pictures. Both are very well recorded (goes without saying for any Opus 3 recordings) and I know ...
Turntables currently considered top of the range. Do you know what they are ? @inna SME tables don't get much love here. However, I am completely satisfied with my pair of SMEs, even though they are lowly Model 10s. But I stack components, so I'm not a real audiophile....
When to change a cartridge? I think 3,000 hours is optimistic. If you keep track of the hours, I would think 2,000 would be the limit, assuming you have clean records and you clean your stylus. But when you get there, you don't have to buy a new cartridge! There are several...
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade This one? That was visible on the side of their factory from the Magic Roundabout (until I left Wiltshire in 1976). They later went more minimalist still: It’s actually more representative of the letters than my wife’s signature.
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade I remember it well from my driving test! Just next to it on the north side is the Plessey/Garrard factory - or was!
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade Didn’t Terry O’Sullivan have something to do with Garrards as well? He was the manufacturer of Loricraft machines and I’m sure he also sold or refurbished Garrard decks. I had assumed SME acquired that side of things from him when he sold them Lor...
Great vintage MM cartridge for my Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck/Spacearm. Recommendations? I usually run four tonearms, but can go to six using pods. I recently did some rearranging because of the re-introduction of the NuVista Vinyl and remounted my MP-500. I not only like its performance, but it makes sense to me to use it for the fir...
Hipster/Chic "Vinyl" playing machine I bought my second SME for less than that! (But I'm not scared of tonearms.)
HumminGuru vs.Degritter The other day my wife texted one of her colleagues to ask if she was on duty, and was delighted when her iPhone offered "Are you on drugs?"
HumminGuru vs.Degritter @daveyf "degauss" or "degas"? |
