Why do I need a phono-pre???
Speaking of which, any suggestions for the budget minded audiophile?Used Rega P3s and AR (Acoustic Research) ES-1s (Also called the late model AR Turntable) are both good ones for low price. The Rega is fixed plinth, the AR is spring suspended. Sh...
Fully Modded Origin Live OL1 or Stock Rega RB-600?
I haven't compared them, but 375 the OL is good. From a value standpoint alone I'd say don't hesitate to go that way.
What about a product can irritate you?
Redkiwi, my tube amps level off after an hour or two of play. Not so bad, and I will spend the 20 minute warm-in picking music, cleaning records, going to the john, making a sandwich, whatever. Allows for a nice chill session before I sit down for...
What about a product can irritate you?
+1, Markphd. My fingers don't like binding posts that are too close together. I have a terrible time tightening the things down. Then there are the WBTs on my Kharmas. The only provision for spades are these little guides at the bottom of the post...
Record Cleaning Again
Wow. Frickin' wow.
Why not Music Hall TT's
They used to get mentioned all the time here. Mainly it's that they're not as tweak-and-mod-able as comparable Regas, Linns, and VPIs, like the others have said. They sound fine but when you want to upgrade you pretty much have to get a whole new ...
I damanged my Shelter cartridge, next steps?....
I'm not sure what Shelter's repair/retip policy is. When My old Clearaudio needed repair, I was quoted a "retip" price but was told that Clearuadio actually just takes the damaged one and sends out a new cart--though I wound up upgrading to the ne...
Michell Gyro SE...Light or Heavy style Clamp??
I echo Mwilson, my Gyro's spindle is not threaded. I have not noticed any noise with my DC motor. Stick with the lightweight clamp on this touchy sprung turntable! I let the platter stop before taking the clamp and vinyl off. Consider it a moment ...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Pat, I support your decision to forego chemo. I have a hard time believing in its merits, all told...this hippie will stay off his soapbox otherwise! ;)I've recently added Ridge Street Poiema!! speaker cables in my system and I'm quite pleased wit...
I damanged my Shelter cartridge, next steps?....
Nrchy: "Personally I tend to blame Carl!"I'll second that. Outlier, have you checked on the cost of repairing your Shelter?
Ode To Audio Clubs - Lunacy Loves Company
I've been referring to them as "NEWASses" ;)Hey, if AA can have "inmates" and AudiogoN can have "Goners" then why not NEWASses? LOL!
Power Up the System - What Do You Do?
If I'm playing something off my recording console, I power that up first; then the preamp, let the preamp tubes warm for a minute, then the power amp last, of course. I leave the CDP powered up. The TT of course gets turned on and off regularly. I...
Ode To Audio Clubs - Lunacy Loves Company
Yes, check out Nrchy's link! The NEWAS has been great, and it started after a few of us checked the Audio Clubs section here on the 'goN. Lots of easygoing guys (plus Nrchy) with all manner of different gear, which we seem to end up trading around...
What's wrong with this system?
Who said it would be too warm, your ears? If not, then it ain't true ;)I have a set of Diamondback and know the sound. I would suggest upgrading them. Cheers :)
Is 9'x11' too small?
Well I hate to be Mr. Opposition, but IMHO that might be too small. Small rooms require lots of treament. You'd need bass traps galore and aborption/diffusion at reflection points. The bass traps would need to be able to suck up frequencies below ...
