A trick with Scotch Whisky I'm leaving the flavor to the fine folks in Scotland. Lagavulin 16 is my favorite. What I do, is keep a lighter "house scotch" around at less than half the price--currently have the Balvenie--and that's for general consumption. That way we don't d...
Searching for Good Headphones & Headphone Amp It's an old thread but for anyone else still looking at this I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Grado SR80s. All the Sonys I've ever heard have been garbage, and I've heard a whole heap of them.
Suggestions on a good shelf system? NAD L53 would cost you like a grand less than the Arcam and will play DVDs as well as CD. Hook up the monitors of your choice with some magnet wire, a screen if you want to use the DVD function, and you're all set.
Kharma Ceramique in a small room ? Congrats on the new Kharmas. I have the 1.0s and find that my room is a bit too narrow at about 7.6m x 4.2m. They do like their space and take care to place.
Why is it so much more civil over here on Agon? Cripes, and here my flamethrower just ran out of spleen juice. Thanks for feeding me that bacteria the other day, btw. I went and bought a whole bottle of it. What were we talking about again??
Why is it so much more civil over here on Agon? Some of those posts in that link were awfully asinine, but I do feel the mods here on Agon are occasionally overzealous and in my personal experience, I feel some may be too biased. For instance, they will let a childish fight break out, but they ...
Traps vs Equalizer OH, almost forgot to mention that I think my system is "overtubed" and will be ditching the Conrad next time I can afford to. I bought that amp for totally different speakers in a rather different system; its character doesn't really belong in thi...
Traps vs Equalizer It's a little hypocritical of you to accuse other piece of equipment basically being a distortion devices. Phono preamps/tubes, talk about your EQ and distortion adding components! One think you'll learn about audio engineering - whatever works, w...
Traps vs Equalizer The "Painter" metaphor just doesn't work for me because there is a difference between "art" and "craft". The soundengineer is a craftsman (IMO of course)Ah, then this is where we differ. In my experience, the audio engineer ends up an artist wheth...
When audiophiles visit for a listening session Yea, fair enough hah. I still think it's a load of crap when I get refused service though. I shall await your story with particular interest!I had a long talk with the cases. They didn't want to leave. They said they had built a home in your garag...
Traps vs Equalizer right eldatford, so why change the music rather than the room? Jax, it's true there is distortion on hitting the mics and more from there on. So your rationale is, there is already plenty of distortion so let's cake as much more on as possible?I t...
Traps vs Equalizer I would also add that, unlike some audiophiles, I am willing to accept a recording as it is, good or bad. Maybe it's because I am an aspiring recording engineer myself, but the recording is what it is, and I for one do not care to correct the engi...
Traps vs Equalizer All an equalizer is is a phase distorter. If you, as an auiophile, are comfortable with intentionally distorting the hell out of your signal before it even reaches your speakers, which will, as a result, not transduce the full range signal, then g...
When audiophiles visit for a listening session The next idea I'm working on, is about an audiophile who disguises himself and goes to a HiFi shop trying to get good service... LOL mebbe I'll have to don a suit and head out for some "real world fodder" for you...
System Pictures - Should Owner be there too? There are 3 pics of me smattered around my system page including one where I'm chugging a pitcher of lager. What more could you want LOL. Of course I have a hat on in all of them so as not to give anyone a heart attack. |
