Benz Micro LP S vs Air Tight PC-1 w/ files
Artemus,I agree that I would not know how the Benz LP would sound in my own system from listening. But I could get a slight sense of character. Now the PC-1 sounds similar to my experience in my system. You should really try downloading the record...
What is the chain of importance in analog system ?
Remember many phono stages require matching to the cartridge in use. This can include gain, load (if fixed or not), SUT gain & impedance matching, and in some cases tube or SS in design. I just don't think we can separate everything. If you up...
Benz Micro LP S vs Air Tight PC-1 w/ files
Artemus,While I appreciate your comments as far the length of the Playback chain, any recording is a representation of the recording / playback chain of the studio in question. It does somewhat apply. In addition 24/92 is fairly true to the source...
What is the chain of importance in analog system ?
I personally don't feel any part of the chain is more important than the other. Imagine our audio chain being a bunch of filters all lined up in a row. Depending on the filter positioning will determine what will get through. The LP is the liquid....
Benz Micro LP S vs Air Tight PC-1 w/ files
Dean,I listened extensively today. In summation, I much prefer the PC-1. There is no comparison. I love the Walter Norris & George Mraz. Want the LP. My impressions are based on the following. The PC-1 has greater dynamic agility and greater d...
Benz Micro LP S vs Air Tight PC-1 w/ files
I am downloading the files. Will give some feedback in a few days. Curious myself having owned the PC-1. I haven't started using my system to record but plan to, but will play back via iTunes into a Prism DAC.
Jim Thiel has passed.
Theil CS2.0 were my 2nd step into high end. I later upgraded to CS3.5s (or 3.6s don't remember) and enjoyed the speakers tremendously. Jim did a lot to bring Audiophile Nirvana to many at a great value and and an extremely well made product. He wi...
Graham Phantom vs. Phantom II
Dertonarm,I can't be bothered to argue with you but you are wrong. There is effective mass & nominal effective mass. Please understand the difference. By the way such also applies to effective length of a tonearm.
A new Apple TV Question
If I remember correctly you can only sync to one iPod & one Apple TV. Something w. DRM.
Graham Phantom vs. Phantom II
Dertonarm,The damping does in fact damp the tonearm. It is a resistance to motion or vibration. It would change how the arm behaves dynamically.Below is a quote from another website. This is the best summation of what is effective mass and how the...
Graham Phantom vs. Phantom II
Jaspert,The armwand of the Phantom I is 1 gm heavier than the Phantom II. That doesn't answer your question but the effective mass of any arm is a function of the distance of the couterweight to the pivot and possibly in the Phantom's case the amo...
How Does the Soundsmith
The Voice was demoed on a low mass Schroeder armwand. Also, the new Phantom w. the Titanium armwand is very low mass. Great cartridge for the money. The Oswald Mills System catered to its strengths in RMAF last year. I myself was ready to buy it a...

The stray magnetic field if unshielded could change VTF as the cartridge moves across the record closer to the spindle/ magnetic bearing. just try working on a cartridge with any screw driver.
Breuer Type 8 Tone Arm
the counterweight is 2 parts that are screwed together. you can sparate it if need be to make a lighter weight & change the arm effective mass. excellent arm. easy to set up but instructions are poor. bass with the right cartridge is excellent.

Dertonarm,Did you ever test the Verdier for stray magnetic fields above the platter that would in fact negatively impact a cartridges performance by interfering with the cartridges magnetics?
