"But it sounds better at night...." @macg19 Yep.
"But it sounds better at night...." Perhaps asking someone who is blind might be the best test of "Is it the darkness or is it the less ambient sound? Might not confirm whether it's less electrical noise, but it would narrow it down a bit. Also, they might not hear any difference at...
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component? The limit is, can I hear a worthwhile change for the cash. Sure, I'll hear a different between $5K and $30K speakers, but is it worth 6 times the price? Maybe, maybe not - I have to hear a level of improvement to make it worth it. Also, I wouldn't...
Does a weave of cables really make a difference? @roxy54 Yep, you're right! Although I try to keep the wires I have organized, I think for me a weave is probably a better description! Thanks for the correction. I appreciate all the info and opinions. I think I'll stick with what I have. There...
Do the Components Match? Spotify is a rather low end source of music, which could be a big part of why the digital music sounds lifeless. Can you try out Qobuz? You can usually get a free trial period. You might hear the improvement you seek that way. Also, what kind of ...
To complete a system A high quality streamer. Unless you have a record collection already, or plan to build one, I'd skip the TT and put all the money into a really high quality streamer for now.
McIntosh to Luxman? I owed Mcintosh separates for a long time, once I could afford them. I agree with most of the posts here, it's a bit light at the top end, and to me a bit dark, now that I own the Luxman 590AXII, the Luxman sound could not be more different, and t...
Sonus Faber Grand Piano or Totem Forrest? I have owned Totem and they were great sounding on any type of music. I have only heard SF for demos, but I found them too 'polite' for rock or rap, sounded great with classical. So I agree with @marakanetz. Just an opinion on what I've personall...
Music Server Advice I have the N200 and once you are use to the app, it's fine. I agree it needs to add a few more features. I find plenty of new music streaming, so have no use for Roon and the cost for it. I also agree with the person who said upgrade your DAC. I d...
A Different "Analog" Question Analog watches, several of them. No digital watch, I have a phone for that. I expect one day analog watches will make a come back, just like LP's did.
A video interview wth Robbie Fulks. I was unfamiliar with Robbie, thanks for the recommendation!
Do You Clean Your Ears? I prefer the occ copper adhesive to gold….I also have heard dipping it in Discwasher fluid helps. @dill really enjoyed this post. Thanks for the laugh.
What is the most challenging music to play on a stereo? I would agree with @ghdprentice that overall, a classical symphony is the biggest challenge. But as I do not listen nor attend a lot of classical music, I use piano and vocals as my “challenge” for a system, as I am very familiar with many vocals ...
Tough situation - need advice on modern (or refurbished Equivalent) Advent Loudspeakers The KLHs ‘s or Lintons are a good “modern” replacement if that is what the insurance company wants. Using the price of another set of referb Advents would get you a much lower value, so give the insurance company what they asked for.
speaker cables under 1k for Harbeth 30.2XD? I own 30.2s and went with Audience Ohno. Flexible, occ copper, adds nothing, very neutral. I will mention these are the most expensive speaker cables I have owned, so can’t comment on higher levels. But I think they are a good match for the level... |
