Good cassette player? As long as the tapes were good quality, TDK, Maxell, etc. they should play fine. If they were cheap Radio Shack or other cheap ones, all bets are off. I was always a Nak fan, and would agree that getting a used Nak would be a good idea, (since you...
Why Music Has Lost it’s Charms (Article) He's wrong, same old garbage that was said about music in the 1920's, 1940's and then the 50's , 60's , 60's , 70's etc. And as for RAP, I heard the same complaints about Bob Dylan lyrics back int he 70's, the older folks thought he was deranged t...
Interconnect or USB cable I always start by replacing things first as far upstream as possible first. It doesn't do much good if you have $30K speakers you brought in 2020 and use a Radio Shack receiver from 1974, you're not going to get the full use of those speakers. Thi...
Your experience in "in their day" brands/components that you remember foundly? Pioneer turntable with Shure cartridge, Marantz 2035 receiver, Large Advents. Added a Nak tape deck later. Never found better. But then I say that about my first love at 15, my first really good wine and my first car.
The Future of Hifi is just being Discovered I read though this whole thread and link, not just for the audio but for the science as I have a minor in Physis. A favorite subject of mine also. @j-wall _wall - please read though this again. @thecarpathian is correct, you are mis-reading/unde...
Looking for new/sealed blank high bias type II cassette tapes Hate to tell you, but sealed tapes go for around $10.00 a piece. I buy used ones for around $2-3.00 when I need them now. I have a Nak and I completely erase them before I re-record over them and that works out fine, no bleed through that I can te...
What cable companies make the best cables and sell them directly? +1 on the Blue Jeans, I had their RCA's and they were better then no-name-starter cables, but in a personal opinion, I would say they are middle-of-the-road quality and you will probably end up upgrading again.
Recommend Halfler XL-280 Repair/Restore/Rebuild ? I had a Hafler pre and amp way back in ‘67 (whoops, that was Steely Dan talking) way back in the 80’s, great stuff, but I agree with others, unless you want it for nostalgic reasons, buy something newer in age.
Wife with music training Confused…better then you at what exactly?
Devore / Bay Area @m-db Great suggestions! You buying? 😁
Devore / Bay Area @larsman - I really tried to buy from him. As I said I like to shop locally and I do. I’m glad it worked out for you.
Devore / Bay Area @eric5kim - ahh, sorry about that, you were right on target though, that’s exactly how Tone of Music treats people. You can barely even walk in the door before he says something just like that. He also said he’d charge me $100 an hour for his expe...
McIntosh LB200? Seems like a lot of cash for an empty box, even if it does have those cool green McIntosh lights and name. Maybe if they had included some of those big green meters too......but I get it, if you have everything Mc and wanted your DAC or phono-pre ...
4 speakers in a large room If it's mainly for ambient music, you could get an old AVR (you can find them cheap nowadays and some very good brands), then play around with the different surround sound modes. I did that in my workshop. Sounds fine for background music. You don...
hearing loss and amp choices @stereo5 Agree 100% with you. I have a Luxman with loudness, balance and tone controls (all defeatable). I have a smaller loss in my right ear, and it helps. A friend has a McIntosh and he is quite happy also. |
