Reviews - Your Pet Peaves It makes sense for them to use speakers they are familiar with (esoteric or not), that way they can compare the sound of different amps, it works the other way also, they would use a setup they know the sound of, to compare to other amps/DACs etc....
What are/were the best sounding cheap components you have ever had? A Hafler DH101 preamp I got for like $75 used many years back. Sounded fantastic and I gave it to a friend to start his stereo journey.
Invoice, or not invoice ? I've never asked for or been asked for an invoice. I can understand a business buying from a business for bookkeeping purposes, but what are you expecting an invoice to do for you in a private sale? Protect you from fraud somehow?
Aurender N200 I went from a blue sound vault, then added a dedicated DAC to it, then upgraded to the N200. Very happy with the value and sound of each upgrade. Just the facts from someone who actually did what you are thinking of doing. No problems with the sys...
Any favorites for cosmetics/design/how a product looks? @bslon I also had a Nak, died a few years back though. What cartridge do you use on the Empire? A friend had the Empire way back when and used a Shure V15 III, I myself had to settle for a Pioneer PL-530, the Empire was way too expensive for me...
Any favorites for cosmetics/design/how a product looks? @bslon ahhhhh, now that system sounds good just looking at it! Although I was a Marantz receiver guy myself, nothing wrong with the Sansui.
Magico Ultimate III - $700,000 Speakers Nice bookshelf speakers.
Anyone else feel like it’s the Wild Wild West? I started with a Bluesound as it was simple to set up, had plenty of features, good software that was easy to use, included a decent DAC, and was inexpensive compared to other solutions. Once I better understood streaming and what I really want...
Audiophile Jargon Demonstrated Add “Grainy” - to me it’s like seeing a pointillism picture versus a watercolor. That’s the way I describe it. Maybe someone else can describe it better. I usually hear Grainy with lower quality DAC’s. Perhaps it’s the same as your description of...
Opinions before purchasing @jasonbourne52 Jason is correct, you’ll never get to 20hz, 50hz or so is about it as he stated, so I’d either go with bookshelves or towers that can get you to 50 and skip the sub, put the money into better overall speakers.
Looking for good recordings of female vocals I have not yet tried... +1 for Alison Krauss, I also like Amber Rubarth, Lindi Ortega and Jennifer Warnes
Does your "esoteric" taste in audio also exist in other "things" you own/consume? @flrun How 100% true. Some of my wife's family has never been out of the State they live in, a few have barely traveled outside of the town they were born in. Yet they KNOW that certain people are ALL criminals, drug addicts or just plain heathe...
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music? @mahler123 Correct, Disco took over most of the airwaves in the mid-late 70's and the songs were hit singles, not normally hit albums. And many times just one song on one side of an album for DJ's. DJ's and dancing ruled and they would match th...
Jude-not Julian Lennon Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, obviously about LSD? Except it was never about LSD. It was about a picture of Lucy, in the sky, with Diamonds.
Is blasphemous Music ok? @tablejockey That was real good country music. Thanks for sharing. |
