Anyone compared Whest Audio with Manley Steelhead? I tried a Whest PS.30R in my system comparing it to my then BAT P10se. The Whest was very close. The BAT just had that valve(tube) richness and a bit more scale, which I prefered. However the BAT is 2.5 times the price of the Whest here in the UK....
any success with "Vinyl flat" and warped records I have one of these - it has worked pretty well so far. probably done about 10 LPs. It is case of getting your oven to the right temp (dont have the bag) - needs a bit of practice but worth getting.
Airtight PC-3 users, tracking angle? Thanks for the input. I seem to have found a good sounding angle now. However it does involve lowering the arm so it is 6 or 7mm (approx) below horizontal which is more than with other cartridges I have.
dCS Puccini CD transport noise I recently bought a Playback MPS-5, second hand, which also has an esoteric mech. It sounds great but the mech is noisy, if I put it on pause I can hear it from my listening position. when playing it makes a whirring sound which seems similar to w...

Help Me Build a Vinyl System I have been playing vinyl for almost 40 years and live in the uk. I am now lucky enough to have a kuzma XL and 4point arm, colibri and benz ebony carts. This is the most musical system I have heard. I have owned an sme 20a/V arm and a Linn ekos wh...
Interface: Cartridge-Preamp or Cart-Tonearm? No problem DavidDave
Interface: Cartridge-Preamp or Cart-Tonearm? I use a an old phillips dual channel scope - connecting left tape output from pre to one scope channel right to other. I use the tape out as it is a fixed output and bypasses the volume control. You then need a test record with a constant tone reco...
Interface: Cartridge-Preamp or Cart-Tonearm? It is interesting to read the responses here. Having used various analogue set ups over 30 years or so, from garrard onwards. I have tended to go with the TT manufacture's arm(eg. sme 20+V arm) as it has been very difficult to audition alternative...
Tonearm choices Hiinteresting no one has mentioned the kuzma arms. Having owned an ekos on a linn and a sme 20 with the V arm(there is no contest between the sme 20/30 and Kuzma XL btw). The kuzma 313 12inch arm I use on the XL 4 turnable is better in every way t...
Whest Audio MC REF V MK4. My new toy. HiI have a BAT phono stage (valve) - I compared it to the whest 30RDT, not se, and preferred the BAT for substance and depth. The whest was only slightly more detailed.I have looked at the ARC ref2 would you say the whest 30RDTse has the body that...
Pass Labs Xono vs Audio Research Ref 2 Hi I was thinking about the ARC ref2 phono and the whest RDTse, heard the whest RDT and it was very good. have not listened to the ARC wondered if you had the chance to compare. Interested as whest costs quite a bit less. I have been using BAT VKP...
An evening with the Whest PS.30RDT Special Edition Yes the whest do seem quite minimal for the price. How ever the ref V is cheeper in the US than the UK. It is £10000 in the UK, that is $15000 at least in anyone money.I believe this model is around $12.k in the states.
Review: Balanced Audio VK-P10 Tube preamp Thanks, yep it is a balance as you say and also that cliche of synergy between components.Of course that Linn thing has been very big over here(UK) and does make sense, rubbish in rubbish out etc.I agree it is not necessarily the money but how som... |
