Should I switch to a preamp with balanced outputs
The only reason to use XLR is if there is no other option. I have switched to ARC, which only has XLR inputs on a power amp, so no choice. What you have to avoid is RCA to XLR conversion cables, that will degrade the sound
ARC Ref 110 with KT 150 tubes
Ghasley, I contacted one of the manufacturers using the 150's in the Ref 75 at RMAF. He told me there were no modifications, just switched tubes and biased in the same range as the 120's, couldn't be easier
ARC Ref 110 with KT 150 tubes
Jasper I have contacted my dealer, but not recently and they made no comment on the KT150s. I got tired of waiting and just changed to the 150s anyway, with a big improvement. If you were really sneaky and the amp broke down, you could just put th...
ARC Ref 110 with KT 150 tubes
Jasper, If I may answer your question. I have had a thread running for about a year, on this subject. If you look towards the last few posts on "New KT150 tubes?" There is indeed a recent ARC pronouncement referred to, to the effect that KT150's a...
recommended phono preamp for $2500?
Another vote for the K&K, which I have used for nearly 10 years, so it is not maxxed out. Plenty of flexibility, comes in a kit, so you can self build, or Kevin will arrange for a friend to build it for you. He is constantly working to improve...
Audio Research REF 75 vs VAC Phi 200
I fully endorse Oregonpapa's comments on the ARC and KT150 tubes. I can not comment on the VAC, which is not imported to the UK, but the Ref 75 is by a big margin, the best amp I have had in my system, though it is the most expensive. On the subj...
ARC Ref 110 with KT 150 tubes
ARC has just pronounced on the latest Reference amps, 75/150/250/600, approving a straight swap of KT120's and 150's and the 150's are a big improvement for my reference 75. That did not include the Ref 110, as far as I can remember. I suggest you...
Floored by the Sound Quality of TEO Liquid Pre
I am sure the Teo is an upgrade from the MFA Baby Reference, but I would count the ARC ref 75 the centre of my system and a wonderful match for Daedalus speakers, that you have used Doug. I saw that you were trying to sell yours, I don't know if y...
Floored by the Sound Quality of TEO Liquid Pre
I am a big fan of passive Pre amps, I recently borrowed 3 and did a mini shootout, just on my own, not to scientific I know. The units were, a Prometheus Reference, Audio music and Music First Audio Baby Reference. The latter stood out as being ex...
Audio Research GS150 Musings
I haven't heard it myself, but there is a review of the GSpre/GS150, in this months HiFi News magazine in the UK. It gives a pretty much unqualified thumbs up, as you would expect from a magazine with a heavy advertising input from the UK distribu...
New KT150 tubes?
Bifwynne, I agree that there seems to be "ulterior motives" , in ARC not blessing the use of KT150's in the reference series. It is a mistake too, no one is going to sell reference series amps to buy the new Galileo series, because they want to us...
Buying a used cartridge...tell us your tale.
Ebm, that's your opinion and your entitled to it. Other respondents, including myself, have set out the broadly good experiences we have had and the resulting big money savings. Everyone buying second hand in this area are aware of the risks, or s...
Buying a used cartridge...tell us your tale.
Because everyone sees the risk with used cartridges, the second hand prices really can be a real bargain. I have only bought one new cartridge in 10 years and that was discounted. There have been a koetsu Rosewood Signature and an Urushi, also an...
Audioresearch VSi75 VS. PrimaLuna
I know you are looking at an integrated, but I auditioned the VSI75 against the ARC ref 75 power amp, hoping to buy the former. Unfortunately the Ref 75 was in a totally different class. It forced me to switch from integrated amps I have been usin...
ARC Quality Issues Ref75 Ref5SE Ref10
Only owned the Ref 75, no problems at all so far after 15 months. Re tubed with KT150's, no problem there either, except the amp top will not fit over the tubes.
