How long do high quality speakers "last"
Recently I saw a pair of Duntech Sovereign 2001's with all of the bass drivers worn due to age. The cone surrounds crumbled into dust in my hands! Now whether this was caused by sheer age, or due to excessive sun exposure I don't know...but the re...
WHAT HAPPENED TO SONUS FABER?
@calvinj The original designs from Franco are certainly some of the best speakers that SF has made. I am certainly NOT disputing that fact. I personally enjoy his GH model even though I could have gone and acquired any of the newer models or even ...
WHAT HAPPENED TO SONUS FABER?
Sonus Faber is a company that produces a fairly large range of speakers. They give you the choice of going from an entry level product...all the way up to SOTA. The new Aida 2’s will compete with most any speaker out there..So, for those who are h...
Eh hem!...Subwoofers... What do ya know?
Subs for music vs Subs for HT. Big difference in what you trying to accomplish sound wise, IMHO.I use a large woofer that is not that accurate for HT set up...and two REL T5i's for my big rig. The T5i's are very fast ( therefore they do NOT interf...
Romex to your amp?
@buckhorn_cortez. I think you should re-read my prior post, you are adding words/points in there that I did not state.Nonetheless, we are in agreement on the basics.
Koetsu black, lacking bass
Anyone here know what ’Platinum magnets’ are??? The Somarium Cobalt magnets are less powerful than neodymium magnets ( used in the Lyra’s)...as are just about all other magnet materials!
Romex to your amp?
@buckhorn_cortez. Not quite right...the zoning departments do have the ability to enforce zoning compliance. This means that if one were to build a structure without the necessary permits --and thereby also not meeting building codes, said departm...
Koetsu black, lacking bass
Compared to a Lyra Kleos, the Koetsu Black is going to sound less resolving in the bass...and frankly IMO every else in the frequency spectrum as well. The Black will sound warmer than the Kleos. I suspect what you are thinking is clarity is in fa...
Why discussions generate into personal affronts...
Having just been banned again from another audiophile forum, I can tell you that politics plays a big BIG part of why mods and forum owners get antsy. Many times, IME, the forum owners begin to believe that they are the B all and end all of the we...
$27,500 for whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???
Ok folks, would you spend $2.70- for a nice paint upgrade, because to a ton of folks...paying $27,000- is the same equivalent, as it is to you paying $2.70-!
Romex to your amp?
@delkal. I don’t think many(any?)of us actually have much experience with anything else in our walls. So, the actual SQ is a hard point to debate.
Romex to your amp?
Just to be clear. Everything that skipskip posted above is completely correct and I agree with it 100%. My OP was questioning the aspect of whether my friend would have a valid point. If we take this scenario one step further, and agree ( or not?)...
Romex to your amp?
Having replaced some Supra Lorad power cable in my system just recently, I can certainly attest to the significant improvement in SQ that the new cables brought. Still, my friends question seemed to have merit, even though that last six feet of ca...
Romex to your amp?
I agree that it is not that practical  to run Romex all the way to the amp...and presumably not to code; but the question is whether this set up would compete with mega $$ power cords  SQ wise that are readily available to the hobbyist?
The Doug Macleod appreciation thread
One of the reasons that I started this thread is because I think Doug is a tremendously talented musician. Playing blues guitar myself, I have a great appreciation for his talent and his skill set on the guitar. To add his killer vocal ability and...
