How much will you pay for an exotic cartridge....
@lohanimal I think what you states applies far more to gear like amps and speakers than it applies to cartridges. Same goes for cables, reputed to be the biggest profit source in high end audio.BTW, are there actually any “charlatan lawyers”..?
TechDAS lll experience
@lewm I was questioning the tonearm mounting scheme myself on the AF3. Hanging a tonearm on a peg would seem to me to be a 'kludge' at best. @mijostyn  Agree. The Basis models or the Grand Prix Monaco are IMO far superior sounding to the AF3. I ha...

@fsonicsmith   +1000I just had to laugh at your post. I was a member at WBF until the owner  ( not the one you reference, there are two, although I think your description of that one is spot on, LOL) decided he was going to be ultra supercilious a...
The very best sound: Direct to Disc
The M&K D to D of Flamenco Fever is an extraordinary album, not only is the SQ demonstration quality, but the music is very fine as well. There are other great D to D's, but this particular album is at, or very near the top, IMO. I think many ...
How much will you pay for an exotic cartridge....
@chakster  Great points...maybe. Kind of depends on whether you believe that as cartridge prices increase performance remains the same, past a certain level. IME, that is not always the case, some of the more $$ cartridges do sound better than the...
How much will you pay for an exotic cartridge....
@dover   Very interesting post. The Air Tight PC1 you mention is a good example of this pricing strategy. Now maybe this cartridge was so under priced at its inception and that the market demand was so huge after the review, that this lead to a ch...

@bbyer Another excellent post! One that i totally agree with. The dealers that i have had long time relations all are willing to talk price, but I wouldn’t bother them either with the scenario that you brought up. Maybe a lot of these folks are lo...
Which one to choose between two 80K$ tube amps?
I own Jadis amps....BUT I would NEVER own the larger models! The 500 or worse, the 800, are going to be heat engines...and work great if you need a space heater and live in a very cold climate! Otherwise, why bother with that kind of heat generati...
How much will you pay for an exotic cartridge....
@bbyer I agree with you. This is a problem for US dealers, although I suspect they really don’t care too much about it! Also, remember that the EU dealer is still making a nice profit at the EU retail price..although I also suspect they are not ma...
Will Lyra Delos get Lambda upgrade?
You bring up an interesting point...will the Delos and the Kleos get Lambda upgrades, my bet is that they will.
Cleaning tube pins
I wiped down my gold plated pins with some 91% isopropyl alcohol tonight. Seemed to clean the pins well enough, we shall see if that also cleans up the sound a little.
Cleaning tube pins
For those folks who are suggesting isopropyl alcohol, I presume this is safe to do on a tube pin that can get hot...anyone concerned about that?Presumably the alcohol evaporates enough to not be an issue?
Cleaning tube pins
Anybody tried the Zeiss lens wipes? Work great on glass lenses and camera lenses...on gold plated tube pins??
Cleaning tube pins
Interesting. I am concerned that some of these products will leave a film that may not be compatible with the higher potential heat that a tube pin can see.
Cleaning tube pins
It is basically dirt and or any other grime.
