Amp or Preamp With Built-in High-Pass Filter
Most (like that Emotiva) will be second order (12db/octave) rather than first order (6db/octave), though.
Volume Settings on Squeezebox Touch and other ???
The volume change is done in the digital domain. As long as you have the volume set at 100% there is no effect on the sound.
Spin Clean as good as RCM, ie-VPI etc?
I'll throw the Gem Dandy into the mix. I feel I've gotten better results from my Gem Dandy than I ever got from my Nitty Gritty, and the sound of running water is much more pleasant than a vacuum motor. I might try the Spin Clean, though I do wond...
Volume Settings on Squeezebox Touch and other ???
You could try this patch. Despite forgetting to turn up the digital volume a few times, I haven't found this a big enough problem for me to bother. I just make sure the volume is at 100% before doing any serious listening.
Azimuth and the Fozgometer
If you have a record with left channel only tones and right channel only tones you can record these with something like Audacity and adjust azimuth until you reduce crosstalk (relative level of the "silent" vs. non-silent channel for left and righ...
Turntable Upgrade Suggestions
I moved my RB300 from a Planar 3 to a Michell Gyro and was very happy with the combo. A Michell dealer should be able to throw in the Michell VTA adjuster. I did eventually upgrade the arm to an SME 309.
Is a good soundstage possible with 2 speakers only
Why not try the free player?I have some extra speakers to try it with (don't particularly feel like moving my main speakers). Would be even cooler if there was a Squeezebox plugin.
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?

What decibel level do you listen at?
My "neighbors are out" listening volume seems to have peak levels of about 85 dB. I suppose climaxes in Bruckner, Mahler, or Shostakovich might get up to 90 dB. Hard to say what the average is for big Romantic and post-Romantic works.I just put on...
What decibel level do you listen at?
Here's an excellent loudness table.
What decibel level do you listen at?
110 to 115 dB is too loud for anybody. You're going to damage your hearing with those levels, if you haven't already. Here's a table for reference:Decibel Level (dB) Source140 threshold of pain: gunshot, siren at 100 feet135 jet take off, amplifie...
DUNLAVY SC-VI
In the manual for the SC-III, Dunlavy recommends sitting about a foot from the back wall and treating the back wall with 4" thick acoustic foam (four 4'x2'x4" panels would probably do it). Or at least that's the recommendation for a room about 20x...
classical label monitors
I see B&W mentioned a lot in CD booklets.
DUNLAVY SC-VI
I think you want the speakers firing away from the short ceiling side so that reflections are not "focused" on the listener by the ceiling, but I don't have any empirical acoustical data to back that up.
DUNLAVY SC-VI
Unlike the usual equilateral arrangement, a typical Dunlavy arrangement would be to start with the speakers about 11 feet apart and the distance from listening position to each speaker of 10 feet (68 degree angle between the speakers). You might b...
