SS amp with tight deep bass ? Also, the Bel Canto "Ref" series and the S125 (but not the S/M 300) have an input impedance of 100k Ohm according to the Bel Canto website.
SS amp with tight deep bass ? The EE pre-amp has a 1.5k Ohm output impedance. A Bryston would have too low an input impedance for it, resulting in lean bass. Look for something with a high input impedance, say 100k Ohm.

Genelex 6922, 12ax7, or 12au7 You can get these a little cheaper from http://analogtubes.com/tubeshop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_118&products_id=1030I just got a pair of the 6922s recently. They are warmer and a little more laid back than EH tubes, though...
How to eliminate TT feedback/vibration I don't think you need to waste money on more "vibration control" crap, since you've already gone to the trouble of making a wall shelf. It won't do anything to reduce "airborne" vibration picked up by the table/arm/cartridge. I agree with Amandar...
Suggestion for Brahms I don't agree that you have to put sonics aside for good Brahms. Some of the great Brahms recordings were made in the "Golden Age". (If you need multi-channel recordings or freak out at the merest hint of tape hiss, this might not be the case.)A c...
Suggestion for Brahms Reiner/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the Symphony No. 4 on Chesky. Recorded by Ken Wilkinson in Kingsway Hall. This was originally on Readers Digest.I'm still very fond of the classic Ricther/Leinsdorf in the Piano Concerto No. 2.
Budget MC Cartridge and Synergy You should add the AT33EV to your list.http://www.jr.com/audio-technica/pe/AT_AT33EV/
Vandersteen 5 - Best amp and pre/pro under $3k ? I'd also suggest an integrated with at least 100 Watts. At this price level you'll get the most bang for your buck. Perhaps something like a Musical Fidelity integrated.
new to tubes 60 Watts should be plenty of power to drive the speakers in that room.
Where do I make the long run IC or speaker cable? I looked at those threads. The consensus is long interconnects and short speaker cables because... the consensus before was long interconnects and short speaker cables because... the consensus before that was long interconnects and short speaker c...
Advantages of bi-wire? No explanation of the superiority bi-wiring has ever made any sense to me. I do bi-wire my speakers because it didn't cost any more for bi-wire cables, and they're easier to use with Vandies. Also it's easy to make your own bi-wire cables.
Amp suggestions please...need some power If you want to be able to mate with a wide variety of tube pre-amps, choose an amp with a high input impedance, say 50k Ohm or greater.
Is rack between speakers always less than ideal? I'd worry more about what's at the first reflection points on the wall behind the speakers (front wall). I can't see much energy being reflected toward the listener from a rack between widely spaced speakers. The first reflection points are going ...
Dumb question? WHAT IS YOUR SEAT/ CHAIR? Ikea Poang chair. Very comfortable and supportive. The back is a little higher than my ears. It puts my ear height at about 34". |
