Help on a couple of classical pieces... I should have mentioned that you can get the Barbirolli recording either in a 5-CD box of Elgar or a 30-CD box of Elgar. The single disc, which is out of print, appears to be more expensive than the 5-CD box!
Help on a couple of classical pieces... I only have one recording of Havanaise, by Grumiaux, but it's a very good one. He also did a very good Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No. 3.There are a lot of choices for Nimrod (from the Enigma Variations). I think I'd give the nod to Barbirolli/Phi...
Squeezebox hard to see? Ergonomically, the Touch seems to be aimed those who are sitting near it or walking up to it. It does come with a remote. But unless you're eyes are very good, it's not very usable across a room. I leave mine blanked anyway (for listening in the d...
Cambridge AZURE 840C Balanced vs. Single Ended Just get some inexpensive XLR cables and try it out. I recommend monoprice.com cables.
small room questions atsacoustics.com has the most cost effective acoustic panels I've seen (apart from DIY, which they can also supply materials for). Their standard panels have a wood backing, but they also sell them without the wood backing for the best absorption ...
Perhaps we should stick with midfi... I don't believe it, either.
Is my room too small You still need to choose speakers carefully so that they don't overload the room with bass. You can only do so much with bass traps.
Gyrodec arm suggestions help? I believe VTA setup with the IV is the same as with the 309, it's done by loosening a bolt and moving the arm up and down a column against friction with your fingers. It's not a fine adjustment, but it's easier than the Michell VTA adjuster. The 30...
Is my room too small I would suggest long wall setup (except for dipoles that aren't too sensitive to side walls). I don't agree that sitting next to a wall is bad as long as the wall behind you is damped with acoustic panels at least 4 inches thick.
Anyone using McIntosh with Vandersteen Quatros I had a hell of a time getting the Quatro's tilt right on my thick carpet. I should probably describe my current procedure using a laser level and a tape measure on my system page.It usually takes me about 90 minutes to do the bass EQ for both spe...
Vandy quatro vs Vandy 5’s One thing to pay attention to is whether the seller has the balanced or unbalanced high-pass filter. This is a considerable expense if they don't have the one you need. You'll want the balanced filter for your Parasound gear.
The CD player is dead....... Despite the fact that I rip everything to hard drive as soon as I get it, I still prefer buying physical CDs to downloads.CDs have artwork, notes, texts, translations, etc (of course, LPs were generally even better in this regard). You can read al...
What's the cost of an entry level vinyl setup? I think before getting a vinyl rig you should think about how you are going to acquire records. It it's from Acoustic Sounds or similar, a collection of 100 records is going to cost $3000 or more. A lot less if you have access to a good used recor...
Shelter 901: Optimal Impedance Sarcher is right, it's system dependent.I would just try all the available settings. I found that for my cart, the midrange popped into focus at a certain setting, and it was quite a bit higher than the value everyone else was using. If you have to...
Volume Settings on Squeezebox Touch and other ??? There is no fixed setting for the Touch in the player settings. |
