new to tubes
60 Watts should be plenty of power to drive the speakers in that room.
Where do I make the long run IC or speaker cable?
I looked at those threads. The consensus is long interconnects and short speaker cables because... the consensus before was long interconnects and short speaker cables because... the consensus before that was long interconnects and short speaker c...
Advantages of bi-wire?
No explanation of the superiority bi-wiring has ever made any sense to me. I do bi-wire my speakers because it didn't cost any more for bi-wire cables, and they're easier to use with Vandies. Also it's easy to make your own bi-wire cables.
Amp suggestions please...need some power
If you want to be able to mate with a wide variety of tube pre-amps, choose an amp with a high input impedance, say 50k Ohm or greater.
Is rack between speakers always less than ideal?
I'd worry more about what's at the first reflection points on the wall behind the speakers (front wall). I can't see much energy being reflected toward the listener from a rack between widely spaced speakers. The first reflection points are going ...
Dumb question? WHAT IS YOUR SEAT/ CHAIR?
Ikea Poang chair. Very comfortable and supportive. The back is a little higher than my ears. It puts my ear height at about 34".
Vandersteen 3A sigs, whats wrong here.
Are there really speaker cables out there that are so bad that they could possibly cause a speaker -- one that is well known to have excellent bass -- to sound like it has "not much bass at all"? That's a sad state of affairs, if true.I vote for a...
Think I want a tube system?
The input impedance of the Onkyo is 20k Ohm, at least according to this info:http://www.ehow.com/list_7326410_onkyo-m_504-specs.htmlThis will probably sound too lean with many tube preamps.
Think I want a tube system?
"If I recall, digital is not an analog wave form but samples taken along it's path to reproduce an analog wave. The more samples the closer to analog."This is a misconception about how digital audio works. The final signal that comes out of a CDP o...
Aesthetix Calypso vs. ?
I take back what I said about the Calypso bettering the 3ix. The Calypso does have more treble extension and more neutral midrange, but I just find the big, dramatic soundstage the 3ix presents to be hard to leave. I think part of the effect is du...
Aesthetix Calypso vs. ?
@Atmasphere, I don't want to limit myself to balanced gear, though. It's nice to hear those Neutrik connectors go "click!", though.I just tried some EH 6922s in the Calypso. I didn't think Sovtek -> EH would make a big difference, but it seems ...
What are the optimal percentages for analog system
I moved the RB300 arm from my Planar 3 to a Gyro SE, which was a huge upgrade in quietness (both less mechanical noise and less surface noise retrieval) and soundstage stability. The Rega arms are good enough to keep if you can get a good deal on ...
What are the optimal percentages for analog system
I would start with the best table you can afford. Usually you can get the arm in a package deal. Putting on an arm of your choice is something you might do once you have more experience with the gear.Cartridges are small, fragile things, and unfor...
Aesthetix Calypso vs. ?
@mdsThanks, that would be very helpful!
Aesthetix Calypso vs. ?
Groan.Seriously, which BAT do you have? I have to say that I still prefer the 3iX's big soundstage presentation. I may just stand pat.
