Vinyl cleanliness
Even very quiet records might have some light ticks. Usually it doesn't get in the way of the music.
WAV versus FLAC
Which cables mask the differences? Do I need silver wire?
WAV versus FLAC
It seems to be it should be easy to do blind testing in this case. Just load up some music in WAV and FLAC format and hit shuffle play. Make a note of your impressions, and only check the playlist when you're done. I think people are just imaginin...
There are new audiophiles born everyday
I thought they were born every minute.
I am in the market for a $ 5-6 k monoblock amplif
Rogue Audio M-150 or M-180. 4 x KT88, 2 x 12AU7, 1 x 12AX7 per amp. KT90s are used for the M-180.Check out the Stereophile review, though I think the reviewer goes a bit far in his comparison to SS amps. The Rogues have the silky top and dimension...
WAV versus FLAC
""As has been pointed out, WAV does not support metadata"That would be a stroke in the - column for .wav then."I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. That the metadata is audible somehow?"I use .wav because I believe it to be the most robust...
WAV versus FLAC
Expectation bias isn't necessarily caused by a conscious bias, it could be a subconscious bias. It's not a character flaw, and I don't believe in supermen without any biases. So you have to have some way to rule it out. With computer playback it's...
Advice on restarting vinyl playback after 30 years
As to whether you need a pre-amp or not, I *suppose* you could just swap interconnects if you don't switch very often. But you still need a volume control for the analog signal. So the options are:* Phono pre with volume control* Phono pre + line ...
DAC with a Balance Control - Does on exist?
Why balance controls? I think this is summed up nicely by Anthony H. Cordesman in an old Stereophile review from 1987. "No serious audiophile is going to be so much of a purist as to eliminate the balance control, simply because so many recordings...
DAC new or used under 2.5K advice
I might as well put in a word here for the Neko D-100. I have the 1V version, which I've been using it in place of the Cambridge 840C CDP/DAC. The sound is very unstressful.
Suggestions on cartridge upgrade
I'll add that the AT33PTG is very quiet in the groove. The 20xl is not bad in this regard, but not as forgiving of less than pristine surfaces as the AT.
Is Itunes OK to rip CD's to AIFF?
AIFF is an industry standard. I would recommend XLD for ripping as it can use the AccurateRip database to ensure you have a good rip.
Does a tube preamp warm up sound of SS amp?
Are the 3.6s too hard to drive for a tube amp like the Rogue M-150 monoblocks? I prefer the Rogues to the BAT VK-250 recommended by another poster, and the Rouges are cheaper.
Benz Ace S H or Dyna DV-20x2H
Good to hear about the Ace tracking and stylus improvements. Mine is an older Ace.
Does a tube preamp warm up sound of SS amp?
Now that I hopefully have my head out of my ass, the answer to the original question is: yes. A neutral SS amp will let the warmth of tubes come through, particularly if you choose some good NOS tubes.
