Can bad LPs damage good cartridges? @Wolf_garcia, that's from the Rega manual. Not the only wrongheaded idea from that company.
Can bad LPs damage good cartridges? I suspect a record that would actually wear more on the stylus would be pretty unpleasant to listen to all the way through. This should be a natural deterrent to playing anything that could possibly cause damage.
What are your favorite phono cartridges? I currently ownDynavector 20xl (I believe this has the micro-ridge stylus)Benz L2 WoodBenz Ace LAT150mlxAT33PTGOf these, my favorite is the AT33. Smooth, neutral, liquid midrange, and an excellent tracker.
FM tuners - Are they OBSOLETE ? The reason FM tuners are obsolete is that there's nothing worth listening to on FM radio anymore.
Archiving CDs to HD...suggestions? The format isn't that big an issue because there is free software that can interconvert (like XLD on Mac). Just make sure it's a lossless format. I do prefer FLAC because it can take any custom tag name you want.1T is probably enough for 3000 disc...
Warm CD player for older CDs with digital glare? If you have a digital output on your player, consider the Neko Audio D100 DAC. Very relaxed sounding. It won't make "hard" sounding early digital CDs sound beautiful, but it can make them more listenable.
Noobie. Vinyl reissues. Am I expecting too much? I'm just not interested in *any* Lps at $30 to $50 each. Guess I'm not a true audiophile.
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes? There are some computer programs like that, but I'm not sure how sophisticated they are. I think real rooms -- sheetrock vs. plaster vs. concrete, suspended floors, alcoves, heating ducts, furniture, doors, hallways, etc -- would pretty much confo...
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes? I was going to suggest the long wall placement, but it sounds like you've discovered this already. A room with lots of reflective surfaces can cause the sound to harden as the volume is increased, so you want to get the speakers away from walls as...
The downward spiral..... "I used a $200,000 system and now I'm using a $1000 system and get better sound than ever before"Sorry, I don't believe a word of this.
Vandersteen 5A Speakers If you look at the tilt chart in the manual, you'll see that for a 36" ear height at 8 feet it has you tipping the speaker back until the top rear of the speaker is 1/2" behind the bottom rear. Since the speaker is 4' tall, this means the top of t...
Vandersteen 5A Speakers If you're using a laser level, one thing you can do is get the tilt exactly what it should be for your listening distance (rather than just the closest line on the tilt chart.) If you're ear height is 36.5 inches, for example, tilt the speakers un...
Vandersteen 5A Speakers Can you explain further how measurements to the front and side walls are used when referring to the tilt chart?
Vandersteen 5A Speakers By the way, the tilt chart in the 3A Sig manual also shows a minimum listening distance of 8 feet. However, the 5As are twice as deep as the 3As (20" vs. 10.5").
Record weights 'n clamps: Audible improvements ? I think upgrading to the screw-down clamp on my Gyro made a difference.Unfortunately, I don't think the suspension of the Gyro can handle a periphery ring with enough weight to actually flatten out, say, dishwarped records. Maybe the really thin R... |
